Congratulations everyone!!! Haha, our directors only took two people for drum major. And I was third. Oh well! I can't wait to see you guys on the field!
-
Okay, so for us this year we had to go to a meeting to disucss leadership and whatnot. We had to write an essay on one of the topics (the director gave us a bunch) and turn that in, with paperwork about your GPA and whatnot. Everyone prepares their own selected piece that's about 2ish minutes in length. The day of the audition, we drew numbers to see what order, then went in to teach posture breakdown. We also conducted the Star-Spangled Banner with no music, and our selected peice to a CD. Later, we had to go through an interview with the head band director. Last year, I think everyone also had to teach actual marching, but not this year.

2007 BOA Regional Schedule

Haha, we will. Do you know who else is? -
Yeah, I make my own. My teacher taught me how to make them in about an hourish? Maybe two? It's not that hard, but to get it right it takes practice... But it's SO much cheaper than buying fully-made reeds!

I didn't see it... Should I go possibly waste money on it?

2007 BOA Regional Schedule
shmily1130 replied to mbui's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Sorry, but: 1) Homecoming is that Friday (lame reason, I know) 2) Westlake Competition is the day of (the El Paso) (we wouldn't pull out...) 3) Directors would NEVER go for it :\ -
Okay, so that I've played: O Magnum Mysterium - But, as was mentioned, it is INCREDIBLY boring to play. But it's so beautiful! An American Elegy - Again, beautiful. Quite powerful... Festive Overture - Fun to play. And listen to. Engima Variations - Wow. It was amazing to play... Irish Tunes from County Derry - It's a powerful thing to play when you're in 7th grade... Third Suite - Okay, so most people end up strongly disliking it. But it was fun to play. Polovestian Dances - I LOVED it. 1812 Overture - Too bad we didn't use a cannon... I can't think of any more that I've played that I really liked. Maybe later. Okay, that I like to listen to: The Planets - How can you not like it? (Except for Jupiter. I'm kind of sick of it. [i auditioned for drum major with it]) Rite of Spring - I play bassoon. Their Blossoms Down - Again, bassoon. Adagio for Strings - And, part of our show music came from it... I can't think of others. Again, maybe later. Oh, and no offense to anyone, but I strongly disliked Easter Monday on the White House Lawn...

LAME!

I'm hoping sarcastic. Why do I have a knot/cramp in a muscle that really shouldn't have one?
-
If it benefits you greatly. Will it SNOW ever again?

My brother.

What chair are you?
shmily1130 replied to Serardian's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
First chair, top band. It's cool though, because we all like each other/don't hate each other. Which is great for me, since the other two people are a year and two years older than me... -
That One Kid in band.
shmily1130 replied to bossman's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
There was this kid that basically shattered his ankle about three weeks before band camp started. So he was stuck on met. (His nickname is Dr. Beat, now.) And then, with maybe a week left in the season, we got all the sound equipment stuff, so he was "in charge" of that and worked the soundboard/synth for most of the show. -
Joining Us From...

Haha, so one time, at a football game I think, the announcer guy was like, "... arranged by John Zarsky..." Which was awesome. Because, Zarsky is the solo trumpet guy. And Mr. Elam (one of the crazy band directors) was all like WHAT? Hm, go Zarsky. It was grand. And at one of the competitions, I think Area or something, they kept calling our head DM Lisa Glenn, which is her mother's name. (I think...) -
funny audition stories
shmily1130 replied to Nancy08's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
(This has nothing to do with region, by the way.) Okay, so Nancy08 said she broke her bassoon, right? So, in 6th grade everyone had plastic bassoons, because they aren't great and people don't want us screwing up good bassoons. This one moron had to pick something up from the ground. He decided it would be a great idea to "balance" the bassoon UPRIGHT on his chair, so it wasn't really that balanced. It ended up falling, of course, and breaking the bell. He was in huge trouble. -
So, how'd everyone do at region auditions?
shmily1130 replied to M1KH4J157's topic in General Off-Topic
Yeah, I didn't do so well... But, I don't really care about the auditions, so I suppose that's okay. And, plus, we were playing for stupid trumpet judges that don't know anything about bassoon. So it's all good. -
Bowie kids found a life outside of band, in a way. With no band, most of the people are now doing anything else. (They aren't true band nerds. )
-
Secret.
-
Um... Something like 17ish? Why can I not think of some interesting question to ask?
-
No way! What time is our band concert tomorrow? And what are we REALLY playing??
-
*GASP!*

Contrawise. (Is it actually a word?)
