And I don’t believe it’s the culture of the entire band, even if someone from Vandy DID say something like that. Surely they were joking. I also know good and well that Jarrett isn’t going to skip out on a future trip to GN for such a ridiculous reason and none of the kids currently in the program have ever even experienced GN. Give it a year or two and I bet we see Vandegrift return to Lucas Oil.

I’m just genuinely curious what reason they have for making their claim that Texas bands have a giant chip on their shoulder. I mean maybe it’s true. And maybe it’s even justified. 🤣

Meanwhile Vandy saunters into the 2019 marching season and says, “hey, I think we will try out GN for the first time ever” and then proceeds to win it.

It absolutely is! So very happy for my hometown band!!

I’m going to say something a little controversial but I feel that as long as Texas bands are having to create UIL focused shows every single year, it will be quite difficult for any of them to take home the eagle. I would love to be proven wrong about this.

Also hearing rumors that Coppell may make their first trip ever to GN next year! 😍😍

I actually hear what you are saying and even agree with you somewhat. I honestly believe that the issue is the fact that UIL state now happens every year for every classification. Gone are the shows that were more artistic and BOA oriented for bands who were not concerned with UIL SMBC that year. These shows were longer and had more interesting elements than the ones geared to UIL years where bands must stick within that 8 minute show timeframe and focus primarily on music performance. I hate what this “UIL every year” situation has done for marching band. Sure it’s cool to say your band goes to state finals every year, but at what cost? The cost of art and creativity, I’m afraid. 😔

Haha this reminded me when I was sitting behind some of the Bentonville chaperones at BOA Prosper and their t-shirts had SHEEPARONE written on the back of them. They are fully embracing that sheep theme this season! 🤣 This is just one of the many things I love most about this activity. The parents are ALL IN! 😂
