Not entirely.... The top 22 scoring bands will have performance slots 5-26. Bands that scored 23-30 will have performance slots 1-4 and 27-30. Any band that makes semifinals as a class representative, but not on score, will perform prior to (read very early in the morning) slot 1. All class representatives will perform prior to the first band that advanced on score. Does this make sense?

I fail to grasp this. As a performing band you go out and do the best you can. Doesn't matter who goes before or after you. Relish the challenge of having CTJ going before you or TWHS going after you. Both are great programs with great shows. Nothing to be nervous about at all. Just do your best!

I think part of what drives the variances is that, while they are looking for the same things, they aren't synchronized where they are specifically looking or what they are specifically listening to during the performance (i.e. what aspect of the sheet are they evaluating at a specific moment). Each judge has his/her own method and can therefore come up with very different opinions. UIL judging is very notorious for this. The real key for Area is getting the right bands to State, which they probably do a decent (certainly not perfect!) job of doing even with the variances.

Same sheets for each judge within category. So they are all looking for the same things.

I can't speak to the why, but my memory tells me they drop the 8 minute (I think this is the correct number) performance time limit for finals. I haven't dug through all the rules, and it could have changed of course. There is still a "total time" to get on the field, perform, and get off the field which I believe is 15 minutes.

I suppose it could be taken that way if you wish to do so. I really think he was letting those of us not able to attend know how TWHS did in the prelims run. I know TWHSPercDad, and "flexing" is not his style.

IIRC, state finals has no time limit, so they will be able to perform the whole show (assuming they make it, and I do very much expect them to).

He means that The Woodlands was first place in prelims, but chose to not participate in the state contest, so they did not perform in finals, allowing another band to have the opportunity. Top 5 advance to state - so College Park, Klein Oak, Tomball Memorial, Oak Ridge, and Klein Cain will be representing Area F. Congratulations to all the state qualifiers!

They might be able to - IIRC they can start playing at any time (don't have to wait for the announcement or anything like that). So they could start early and get the full show completed within the allotted time. I'm pretty sure they did this back when I was a band parent for longer shows, but I could be wrong.

After seeing DB and Wando on Box5 today, my opinion is that they are better than Wando right now, and have a great shot at taking a finals slot. Wando can come back, but they need lots of cleaning in their show.

For those that don't know how the panels work - the top 5 scoring bands from each panel advance to finals, then the next 4 highest scoring bands regardless of panel advance to finals. So the judging panel matters as it is a contest within the contest for those 5 spots. In 2019 they did pretty well as 7 bands from each panel advanced.

FYI in case you don't know. Lone Star Preview uses BOA sheets and BOA judges. I worked tabulations 2017-2019 and the judging panel is top notch. The results should give a good indication of where the competing bands are.

With a little sleuthing, I would say Cypress Woods. According to his profile he lives in Cypress, and the only Cypress school I see on the current list is Cypress Woods. They were outstanding at Conroe, so I think they could be top 20 at SA, and could sneak into finals.
