After reading over principleajent's top 30 poll formula (albeit, shortened), the formula and ranks mean nothing currently for this season. If a major contributing factor are contest results, then the formula is skewed. Too many bands in Texas have been waylaid by weather and may have 1 competition under their belt. Hendrickson competed at Austin with 2-1/2 movements of their 4 movement show and finished 8th in finals then Waco was cancelled. Re. Hendrickson dropped 11 spots from 15th to 26th. Why? Because, Waco. Yes Dan, I'm gonna use it. The formula doesn't work this season for a lot of Texas bands, why bother.

That was also our best run of the season. Madison did kill it. Got there just in time to catch your show. Surprised ya'll didn't get more captions. That must have been a fun competition.

Congrats! Tear it up. Hope I get there in time to see the performance.

Hendrickson crew turned somewhere near Belton. Gonna make a tour today with a stop at Lost Pines Festival this afternoon then US Bands Converse tonight. Sudo Prelim/Final for the weekend. At least will get to have full run throughs instead of 2-1/2 movements or rain outs.

Bowie had 2 guard go down due to the same tarp at Austin. 2 shows in a row, something had to give.

To my knowledge, Hendrickson has not. I know that if the weather holds out though, Waco is going to be exciting.

Henny's soloist' mic cut in and out at the beginning. I don't think Leander's issue was a problem. They were amazing without it.

Mics and electronics are the paradigm. I don't see this changing. It's still early in the season and like all the other aspects of a show, the bugs are being worked out. I feel that it is great that students are given the opportunity to learn these techniques. Managing a mixing board with multiple field mics, pit mics, solo mics, recordings and electronic instruments is a skill in and of itself. Kuddos to the mix masters and set up crews, for they too are part of the programs we see today. It's up to the programs themselves to determine if this technology is used, it's complexity and what it brings to their particular show. Remember too that these techniques (electronic/digital) can be an asset or detrimental to a show. When it's done right it can really enhance a movement, but a simple trip, faulty generator, wire or connection could kill that movement. Either way it is what it is today and surely the future.

Placement is key. Band merch, show shirts, buttons, equipment trailers, freebees. Don't put it on the field.

Here's a policy to consider: Marching Band is "required" to attend 8-10 (whatever) football games to show support for their team. Then the football "team" including all players (freshman to senior), all coaches and support staff should be required to attend all marching band contests as well as purchase band merch to show support for the school's marching arts. Let's see how that goes over with the athletic boosters.
