Grand Nationals 2018???
Rudedog34 replied to bingogooberman's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
Tell the Hawk Directors that. I would love for my Senior next year to have that experience. I don't see it happening though. From "Lost" at sea, to having a vision "3D" to tearing down that wall. Next year should have a theme like arrival. Reaching out and pushing the envelope. Give those freshman from 2015 redemption. Who knows what they could do. -
2017 Grand Nationals

That's something that would need to be researched. New, used or rented. Low, mid or high quality. It also depends on the direction of the program. Will the equipment be used only during marching season or will it see multi use from other programs throughout the year. Training is another consideration too. A quick Google search yielded a bargain basement cost of around 2K and a top shelf of between 8-9.5K. Keep in mind, I'm no expert, just a band booster with "some" knowledge whose pockets aren't shallow, but definitely not deep and tend to verify the justification. -

Oh Danny Boy, you know that's a given ;-) It's going to be interesting to see what CTJ comes up with to top this year's show. -

Most Sunburned - I can confim this. I was sitting with all of you when the wonderful smell of kettle corn began wafting through the Palace. Yeah, as hot as the kettle. -

There are many Tx bands that use directional (shotgun mics). They were prevalent even at BOA Austin. It was the first year in my 4 years of envolvement that our band used them. I don't know for a fact why, our directors prefer unfiltered, unamplified sound but we had too many hits that were incorporated at mid-field or beyond that would not have had the same effect if we hadn't had them (3 mics on 4ft tripods). The biggest reason bands don't use them is because of cost. $1500-2000 for each mic and stand, then you try to work them in to a 16 channel mixer that doesn't have the capacity. $5000-10,000 for quality mixer...in most cases it's just not feasible when you're only asking $500 per member to cover cost for the year. Should they be legal? That's up in the air. Do they work? A resounding, YES! (see what I did there)? -

I'm going to need a support group after this season!

How many of us will be glued to a monitor/tv while Flo Marching streams Saturday night? I know I will be. Just wish we had a large bag of kettle corn from The Palace to end the season right! -

Agreed. The performance itself (barring anything goes drastically wrong) is exciting, but not nerve wracking. I try to get there early and catch as many shows as I can. I know all those kids have worked their tail off to produce the best product they can for their directors, the judges, family and the fans. Deep down inside them they are entertainers. The hear and see the reaction of the crowd and fellow competators. They know when they have success. I'm there for my kid, our band family and I'm a fan of all, so the perfomnces are enjoyable. Awards...that's nerve wracking.

Haven't a clue as to what livestream broadcasting software is used or the producer experience is. Most software (even open source) has in picture capability with the ability to switch multiple cams. Most YT gamers use it daily. High cam - main feed Multi cams in picture - soloists, close ups, sections, Drum Majors, etc. Easy, peasy.

I thought it would be interesting to hear about or see shows from the past that didn't make B.O.A. Super Regional for whatever reason that had potential to finish well in prelims or even make finals but never came to fruition. Tell us your story and post a video or link if you're able. I'll start it off with Hendrickson's, "Lost" in 2015. Performed in exhibition before finals in place of the Bobcat show (they were flooded and couldn't make it to S.A.) "What if" this show had been allowed to compete in prelims? Props to the 2015 Round Rock Dragon Band for their support that night and the friendliest rivalry in Central Texas.
