  1. I had a sneaking suspicion that we were building up to this, but I was not expecting us to be the first Houston band aside from the Woodlands to make the trip this decade. SSH! is going to be special. Very proud alumni moment šŸ˜Ž
  2. Despite this, I was still incredibly proud after seeing the recaps (it felt as if they ā€œmade finalsā€ to me lol). Seven Lakes just had the best season in program history and is showing signs of moving up to the top tier of bands in the state. These recaps show that finals is a very real possibility for them in the future. Theyā€™ve gone a long way since I was a freshman there in 2015.
  3. Is Jordan HS at this contest? They might surprise some people.
  4. Glad to see the weather should be cooperative after all. Welcome to Legacy Stadium everyone!
  5. Woah every single regional is in Texas this year thatā€™s crazy
  6. Looking at this list reminds me how much more stacked this competition is this year relative to last year
  7. I might be able to attend Waco this year. Thanks for giving me another reason to get excited!
  8. Jordan - A Warriorā€™s Path The new Katy school directed by former Clements director. Best of luck to this new band!
  9. I really want Oak Ridge, Bridgeland, Clear Brook, Cypress Woods, Cinco Ranch, Tompkins, and of course my alma mater Seven Lakes to break out. Would say the same about Pearland and SFA, but they pretty much already have. On another note: I am overwhelmed with curiosity about Jordan, the new Katy ISD school opening this year. Their director had been the head director at Clements (+ Bluecoats staff!), and their student pool is from Tompkins and Seven Lakes. Vast potential there already!
  10. And devastating. (Edit: This is my 237th post. My Fall 2017 self is now satisfied. I will not post any more. )
  11. Compare to Bridgeland: Although Bridgeland is a relatively new school, they had zero BOA SA experience prior to pulling the GN trigger.
  12. Seven Lakes has BOA Houston, Katy Marching Festival, and BOA SA on its calendar!
  13. No changes in venue at all this year for TX.
  14. This makes me very happy.
  15. The inverse of Christmas in July: Marching season in December.
  16. They also placed 3rd at the Katy Marching Festival and 2nd at USBands Spring (Remo...whatever you want to call it)
  17. I just want to remove all doubt, lol. I ABSOLUTEY want it to be true but Iā€™ll remain dubious until I see something concrete from them (twitter etc). Cypress Falls has historically been liberal with out of state competitions so it would make more sense for these guys to follow suit considering that they have Fallsā€™ former director.
  18. I think he commented this before he knew that the 6A cutoff was raised.
  19. Where is the announcement? Are you affiliated with the program? I see no reason not to believe it but I havenā€™t found anything confirming it yet.
  20. Itā€™s going to be fun watching these newly developing programs battle it out against the more established 6A programs. Iā€™m expecting these guys to show up to some big name Houston invitationals where the 6A Houston competition is strong while outsider competition is low. Thinking: Friendswood Invitational (think this will be the strongest option for them, especially due to its value as an early season competition), Lone Star Preview, Cypress Showcase, or perhaps Katy Marching Festival.
  21. Thatā€™s my bad. I was thinking of the band from Austin.
  22. Breaking down some ā€œbands to watch out forā€ by Region. Of course, I have a lot to say about the Houston area. Austin: Will agree with Bowie and Westwood here. Also, how about Lake Travis? They are good!! DFW: Despite going to college in this metro, itā€™s ironically the metro I know the least about (at least relatives to the number of great bands there). From what Iā€™ve heard, Iā€™d have to say James Martin, Coppell, and Haltom are 3 schools that are ready to break out very soon. San Antonio: Sandra Day Oā€™Connorā€™s doing some really cool stuff. Donā€™t really know many other bands from here, unfortunately. Houston: Completely agree on Bridgeland; their 2019 production was GOOD! Other programs that Iā€™m expecting to break out soon: ā€”ā€”ā€”ā€” Cypress Woods (13th @ Austin AND Houston!!) Dawson (14th @ Houston and a solid showing at SA), Tompkins (11th @ Houston...although theyā€™re losing numbers next year), Cinco Ranch (7th @ Cypress Showcase; very personal pick...I think these guys have been criminally underrated these past few years), Klein Oak (16th @ Houston with a really fun Train show!) And finally: the new Katy ISD school opening next year, Jordan HS! Their pool is Tompkins and Seven Lakes performers (Freshmen/Sophomores), so you canā€™t overlook this future group! Depending on staffing and their regional attendance, one of BOA classes A or AA will become much more interesting.
