Cedar Park really blew the roof off of Lucas Oil this morning. Big Texas sound matched with their best ensemble sounds of the year. Those kids really turned up this morning. I was sitting in front of 2 arrangers and 2 non-competing directors. They were not mildly but highly surprised by their run. 3A is a two horse race between Castle and Cedar Park. Prosper had a nice run earlier this morning. We should see them Saturday.

I wonder how many of this drumline got a perform in Super Regional Finals in their high school days

There are three bands that stood taller than any others tonight. I'm really interested in what the judges have gleaned from the forums and how they rank the top three. Whoever takes it overall is amazing and Ill be happy. I just would hate to see the BOA band x wins Music and Visual and Band Z wins GE and takes home the win.

Why wouldn't people like it if Flower Mound takes it? It's a great show and performed at a high level.

Retreat is delayed. The more people post their predictions the more the judges have to change their scores to get a true sense of GE. Or maybe the judges are just having Box 5 stuttering issues on their stream and we are all living in the future as they tabulate true GE (which should be 95% of the score) from the forums.

So, you are saying McNeil has never missed state but were beaten by two bands because they "have a long history of making state?" I'm confused....Does history matter in a contest or not? Are you invalidating some of McNeil's previous state appearances because they "have a long history of making state?" See the falacy in this arguement?

Or how wonky BOA judging can be. Different circuits that care about different aspects of the same activity. I actually prefer UIL as it is much less dependent on GE vd BOA. But I love watching both.

Tribalism that is not healthy or enjoyable is running rampant today. Adults are acting worse than the kids in the contest and they seem proud of it. And if it's chidlren who competed in the contest are posing as adults it may be even a little sadder for the activity.

NO, the director of Cedar Park was not judging this contest. The first director of Cedar Park was judgeing the contest, not the current one. The first director of Cedar Park is no longer affiliated with the school or band. I was sitting next to his wife at the Area H contest (and confirmed he was judging are and I watched the current director of Cedar Park Band come into the stands to watch HIS band compete.

This contest was a pleasure. Cedar Park - Congratulations Rouse - What a beautiful show. Leander - This is so much fun. Tom Glenn - Welcome back to SMBC!! That is not true. Every finalist at GN would seriously compete for top 6 here, every year. To believe otherwise is absurd. Your statement is essentially saying: Carmel Avon Tarpon Springs Blue Springs Broken Arrow O'Fallon And Dobbins Bennett Are all pushovers that can compete in the national stage but would not be nearly as competitive in a Super? Bollocks! Is the San Antonio regional the strongest of Super Regionals? Absolutely. Is it tougher than GN? Not a chance.

The Westlake show is beautiful. The guard alone is stunning to watch. Musically they are taking their concert strengths and putting them in the field now. This show is one of my favorites of the season.

Shotgun mics are designed to pick up a very narrow diameter cone of sound over a long distance (usually) and are not ever used by any band. This meme of shotgun mics in Texas is really just an incredible flaunting of ignorance mixed with scary sounding terms. Loudest bands with quality 6A: Hebron 5A: Cedar Park

The Leander Festival of bands is Monday. Band for band, minute for minute, there is not a show or contest that performs at such a high level. I'll be there. Anyone else? I'll also be posting videos.

And to clarify even more: There are only 2 judging panels...not a different panel for each block.

Yeah, it's been so much hotter at Rouse high school than it has been at Leander, Cedar Park, Vista Ridge or Vandegrift. 😕
