  1. Lonestar This theme cracks me up! It is such an enjoyable show. Great articulation in the opener throughout the ensemble. High brass is really playng well together! Yeah tuba soloist!! Guard:: You were moving faster than I-35 at the close. Awesome job Lonestar
  2. Richland Ya'll really liked the grinder in the hall of the Mountain King. You nailed it!! Amazing job. Then to transition into the ballad. Pretty tones throughout. Well executed step out to end the ballad. Epic ensemble sound on the closer. And to end with Phantom Regiment's kickout kneel was class!! Great job Richland!
  3. Roma What a delicate and controlled sound throughout the ballad. Just beautiful! Great shapes and spatial awareness in the long curvatures. Dynamics control was a treat throughout!
  4. Friendswood Stephen Sondheim would have loved watching your performance today. Great job! The energy at the beginning built a lot of excitement and you kept it throughout the performance, even during the ballad. Then you all picked it up even more as the show continued. Congratulations!!
  5. Lebanon Trail: Grand opening statement! Guard killed the opener and the ensemble sound is excellent. The flute soloist has such a pretty tone. Congratulations on State Finals and on performing an outstanding run.
  6. Have amazing runs today @clarinetistkai05 @tennertrumbow @SaxA41 @krustyjoe.
  7. There are some middle school guard programs in the district. At Cedar Park Middle School they do not teach marching. That being said, the band directors and assistants are highly involved with helping to bring the middle schoolers along. Occasionally sections will be chosen to rehearse with the middle schoolers. This is part of the district's principles that academics, athletics, and arts are equal.
  8. It is not unlikely, it is true. I am looking at the scores right now.
  9. Rouse's students perform the show expertly. I appreciate the precision and artistry. I do not like the design. Every impactful musical moment the section that is carrying the sound is not moving. I think that's cheesing the system. Not the student's fault but a design decision. It is performed extremely well and Van Doren did an an amazing job designing the show. But it could be better!!!
  10. I'm too old and forgot to use my fingers. No need for that new fangled math stuff
  11. San Antonio: 2 Houston: 2 DFW: 3 Austin: 3 Leander ISD: 4 This is why I say every year the LISD Festival of Bands is the best band for band show in America.
  12. Band sof America splits are set by score for finals. Top half 1-7 are the top seven scoring bands, but they go in random order. Same for bottom half
  13. Leander ISD...Marching Band Capital of Texas
  14. I always appreciate the shows that CTJ puts out and they level they perform those shows. But, I generally do not like their shows as theygenerally feel just a little too over the top for my sensibilities. This year's show is one of my favorites by them in a long time. It is visually quite accessible and it does harken back to more "traditional" style of marching band. I think not pushing the design envelop has hurt them in judge's eyes this season. And that really sucks because their show is one of my favorites of the season.
  15. I'd agree if they had the stones to come and play....
  16. Now I'm imagining mobius straps all over the field. I know what you meant. And yes, they are a thing of beauty on the field
  17. Nope, according to the forms and social media they are washed. All used up and done. Never gonna make finals in another contest for the rest of time.
  18. It wil hurt their chances of being top half and it essentially eliminates their chances of winning the class. But, my guess is that they have a stadium rented out for the rest of today and are going to use the competition time to rehearse for finals.
  19. Not marching, but at Carnegie Hall in Pittsburgh I was performing. It was -10F outside and the stage was nice and warm. We had just finshed a rehearsal and people we proceeding off stage. A stage hand opened a door as our bassoonist was walking through the backstage and she caught a terrible breeze. We all heard it crack,a cry, and a wail of dispair. I was sick to my stomach as I had been friends with her since high school, dated her in college, and I knew what her bassoon meant to her. Luckily, Carnegie Mellon's lead bassoon professor was close and brought her a new axe so she could melt faces in Beethoven's 5th. Tough spot for a high schooler and marching competitor, not many spares to be found, especially a bassoon.
  20. Now is the time of yeah when Cedar Park turns it up. They usually work in some heavy dynamics changes and usually have 1 large unseen visual for state/BOA week. Should be a fun contest and I am happy to see LISD field such a strong class of bands yet again.
  21. You may want to back off of the salt. I know it hurts when you favorite band doesn't win but you cannot honestly believe the Vandy book is easy. If it was your favorite band probably would have played it.
  22. ^^ Yeah^^ This is a very crazy contest.
  23. My prediction for the top 5. I didn't catch the first half 1. Vandegrift 2. Marcus 3. Hebron is determined to clean up before Nats. This is the anger to fuel their fire 4. in a mild upset Vista Ridge rides their musicality to a medal 5. The Woodlands 6. Flower Mound after putting on an amazing show are left dumbfounded and ready to hit it hard for the rest of the season.
