  1. My guess: Hebron Vista Ridge The Woodlands Vandegrift Ronald Reagan Cedar Ridge Flower Mound CTJ Coppell Marcus Pearland Keller Round Rock Waxahachie
  2. Hebron may have left the door open a little bit. A shaky moment and an uncharacteristic dynamic hole. Their soloists are fantastic and the ensemble accuracy is off the charts when playing at speed. This is going to be remarkably close. What a contest!
  3. From what I heard Vista should win brass and woodwind music (with one big Pen Striped caveat). They were very clean movement wise. I was too enthroalled with the band to really watch the guard though. What an great run performing one of my favorite music books of this contest.
  4. Vandegrift has a 4A state title from 2013
  5. Holy Moly. I thought Vandy peaked last night. No, they just hit peak Vandy this afternoon.
  6. Yes, I believe so but covering different captions
  7. I dislike Content and Design as much as I dislike Visual General Effect. Why? The students have no, none, zero, zilch control over this. It becomes a glory spot for the directors and design teams. Are they part of the organization? Absolutely. Should they get a judging slot with such weight? No.
  8. If schools truly are getting a cut (as it appears to be whenever you sign up) I am all for this service. Box5 just goes to the Troopers (I got nothing against the Troopers, I actually really dig 'em) and a fee other investors. This isn't rocket surgery and for this service's first attempt at a band contest they did great. Much better than FLOMarching was 3 or 4 years ago. They heard our cries and put up a high cam. Now it's very small technical issues that can be easily and quickly fixed.
  9. No, that was a pretty clean run. I think they may not have been too pleased with the result at the Super Regional and took it out on the show tonight. This is the best that I've seen them (and I've seen them a lot this year in contests, festivals, and games).
  10. Check your audio outputs. Uncheck any compression (loudness, balance volume, limiter, etc...) in audio processing.
  11. The Oak RIdge trumpet soloist has a tone that you don't hear very often in Texas marching bands. It's more of an Italian soloist tone, nice and rich. Good job on that solo.
  12. I tend to really like the Seven Lakes show concepts and this year is no exception. What a fun show.
  13. Vista with big lush sounds....wow! This is my favorite Vista show ever, yes, ever. I totally dig Tomball's take on Jump, Jive and Wail. Reaching back a little bit Hanna was a great show. Their band's familiarity with the music game it not only a unique sound but one that really allowed them to enjoy the show.
  14. I personally would like to thank Dr. Sheldon Cooper for is strongly worded email
  15. Gheez! The Dickinson guard was on fire today. Great work by them. The movie theme is a lot of fun for a show concept.
  16. That was my first time seeing Midland this season. I love their music selections.
  17. Been forever since I've been on P1 of this thread. Yeah, a few may be familiar. Then the first two names listed are Crotts and Carlson. This contest is in good hands.
  18. Speaking of the judges, who is on the panel for this contest?
  19. Since I cannot like this comment more than once I'm quoting for emphasis
  20. Frenship going ham with U-87 or U-87 clone mics on their soloists. I love it!
  21. IMO no, it's not as strong as Grand Nats Semis. The top 14 bands at a Grand Nats Semis (for a like comparison) would band for band be a higher level than 6A UIL state semis. You cannot downplay the power, strength, and consistency of bands like Carmel, Avon, Blue Springs, Broken Arrow, and Tarpon Springs. Would a few of these bands have a shot at beating them? Absolutely! But with all of these bands being consistent Grand Nats attendees they tip the average strength of the top 14 in GN Semis. That's not a bad thing, just realistic. Is Texas' 6A state contest the best top flight State contest in the country? Yes, I believe it is. But we cannot take that and compare it to the best bands all gathering for one contest. No shame in that.
  22. I don't believe that we should try to get UIL to change the provider. The stream has been stable and the sound is good. No complaints there. It is on par with FLOMarching and BOX5. My only quibble is the lack of a high cam. I have a belief that this service is much more financially friendly to UIL so that's a good thing. I also like the option to donate a portion of my subscription to a certain school. Great touch! I believe that we just need to ask them not to treat this event like a football game. In my email to them I pointed out that no high cam coverage is the same as braodcasting a football game and in the middle of the biggest plays focusing the camera on the left guard while completely missing the flea-flicker long bomb that just went for a touchdown. Cy-Woods had a great show today. and the FloMo show seemed to do well.
  23. I really don't understand why there's no high cam option. It's the only way that I truly enjoy watching these shows. Why do these producers continue to try and force these moving/multicam options? Maddening!! I really don't care what they think is interesting. It's art...let me find what I find interesting, please.
