I am too. But we don't have as many trying out. I kinda think I have a chance but now I've probably jinxed (sp?) it... I'm actually not even thinking of the tryout's right now. I'm just trying to survive the week .

The Ten Commandments Of Band
Nancy08 replied to bossman's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Thou shalt not have your entire section sip from the section leader's cup while she's not looking. thou shalt not steal the section's leader's mouthpiece and/or horn and play on it while they're taking a bathroom break. -
*shudder* You must not speak of it...

not me... WHY IS SPRING BREAK OVER?!?!

Is this a "larger the quantity, cheaper the price" type of thing? I don't need it now, but next marching season...

Stand Tunes

Im not sure my fellow band members would agree, but we had a dance team song that I loved and wished we'd play in the stands...I believe it was Mambo, from Westside story. I also like School's Out, and Jungle Boogie. Hmm...Hey Baby's a classic...we have one called NFL that the crowd loves...yeah. Those are probably the top 5. Hope that helps. -
and changing the subject...+70

It is subsiding now...the drought continues. I hate that it picks spring break to be the week to rain...

Best Bands in state

We did used to be a power school, but as you put, we got lost. Add that to 2 and soon to be three "new" highschools in the district, all of which have or are going to pull from us, and the relatively new director change...we havent done too bad. Slowly but surely we're making our way back up, but its an uphill battle. Im sure we're not the only school, either. There are probably alot of schools in a similar situation... -
Its not so much a problem on the sax, although your advice will definately help. During marching season we have too many saxes, so as a section we can put out the sound. The problem is we have alot of brass "heros" in the top band, so getting a bassoon to be heard is quite a challenge. Generally, the louder your reed, the brighter and grosser the sound. I have good dark reeds, which are great for quiet soothing passages and solos, but loud staccatisimo notes and runs...not so much.

ok I fixed the link. that just shows how computer challenged i am

It can't just be me that has a hard time making myself heard. Brass can play loud so easily, and us woodwinds have to blow our brains out just to get over the brasses mf...>_< Matbe I'm exagerating a little, but is there an easier way to be loud?

That's an amazing picture. Today is a great day, cause it's officially... SPRING BREAK!!!!

I do HW...just like I do every day. Except sometimes I see a movie or chill at the mall...

Inside/Outside

I've never dated, but when I do he'll be in the band. If the guy didn't have the same passion for music that I do, I'm not sure we'd get along to well. He'd get fed up with me real quick. -
Actually, that might be our show next year...but I'm not sure. I love that song .

State S&E

I should be going, but, alas, I am not. I thought I only had to play 2 of the four movements of my Sonata, but it turns out I had to play all four . I found this out the Wed before the contest, so all my memorizing energy went to learning-the-last-two-movements energy. Oh well, there's always next year. -
Here's an updated version of "No Name." Most of the dynamics are worked out, and I've added a couple sections. Let me know what you think! Note: I could still use a name too... No Name 2

I was gonna put Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza(sp?), but at the time I didn't know how to spell them. Now it won't let me change it.

Leander is the place to be ...but this is an old map. Our tennis fields are in the back now...

Nope. G decided that I needed to demonstrate them to the whole band, but right when he said for me to do this, I was switching reeds. I had to throw the original reed on quickly, but I had no idea where he said to start. I played random notes until i could pick up on where we were. Fortunately random notes sound fine on Symph #2.
