  1. We had a kid pass out during Band Camp (very scary , in my section) and his doctor forbid him from marching this season so he got stuck on met.
  2. Our band is very diverse. It's not crazy small, but it's not huge either. We have athletic kids, brainy kids, clumsy kids, gross kids, tall kids, short kids, enthusiastic kids, emo kids, shy kids, drunk kids (jk...I hope), bad kids, hyper kids, funny kids, rebelious kids, *pant pant*...musical kids (duh), popular kids, unorganized kids, trendy kids, friendly kids, young kids, odd kids, and kids you just want to slap in the face. Anyone I miss?
  3. So do you think anybody can learn any instrument, or are some people just born to play a certain one? For me I've determined that it's a very good thing I didn't start on percussion. I CANNOT learn even how to hold the sticks right. I can kinda do brass, but it seems like woodwinds are my thing. Then again, I can't make any noise come out on flute, and even with three clarinets trying to help me I can't get anything but overtones out on the clar. Low reeds for me!

  14. as long as your other arm hopefully... Why is my left foot bigger than my right?
  15. That's so gross!! We have roaches everywhere in our bandhall cause people leave food in their slots. That reminds me of something I read about double reeds. Basically breaking in your reed means coating the inside with dust, dirt siliva, mucus, and food particles. That's what gives a reed it's dark sound, and why new reeds are always so bright. Of course too much build up can get very disgusting...
  16. Our PAC is fairly nice. Only when we play on it it's really cold so everyone gets out of tune. Plus I sit right where there's a draft so my music always goes flying. Still ours is nice.
  17. In middle school I went through like 5 bassoons... The best thing was when I left my horn home one day and somehow, don't ask me how, fire ants built a nest inside it overnight. The next day I managed to get it to school without noticing. When I went into the band hall, however, I opened it up and fireants literally spilled out of it. I carefully shut the case and dragged it outside. Unfortunately, I'm mildly alergic to fireant bites, so I couldn't risk getting bit alot. A bunch of kids ran outside to help me, and we started a sort of asembly line to get the parts out of the case. To get the ants out we used the cleaning cloths. Eventually we got everything cleaned out, but the pads were eaten right off the keys. Apparently they wanted the moisture from the pads cause we were in a drought. In a week or so we came back and there was a new fireant hill right outside the bandhall where we'd cleaned the ants out.
  18. I'm gonna major in music, but not performing. Of course, I'll still play, but what I really love is composing. I actually want to get my PhD... I might also double major with engineering or something. I'm looking at Rice or UNT in Texas, and some other mid-west schools, too.
  19. Hoo-rah for cool Leander kids! Yes, first we'll take over the forums...then...the WORLD!!!!
  20. I have fish a dog and a cat. BTW, it only counts how many topics you post in, not how many in each one...i think. How many days till Christmas????

  22. Wow we never do anything like that at school auditions. Our directors take them really seriously... This year after the audition i tried to hold the door open for everyone with my foot while being turned around talking to my friends at the same time. I lost my balance (not an uncommon occurance for me ) and in the process of catching it pulled up on my bell. The bell came off and the restof the instrument fell to the floor. So I broke a 5 thousand dollar instrument...whoops. It's ok cause now i get to play our school's brand new never-been-used bassoon.
  23. Joining us from Leander Texas please welcome the Leander High School marching band! Musical selections include "To Tame The Perilous Skies" by...some guy...arranged by Michael Klesh and Juan Carrera....proud to present in finals performance drum majors Jenny Yin, Kevin Davis, and Anna Pham. Drum Majors, is your band ready? Please wecome the Leander High School Marching Band!!! (Ahh!!! *applause*) Now those drum major names are easy, but somehow they still manage to mess them up. "Jenny Yin, Kenny Davis, and Anna Pam" They did that right before our area performances and everyone started chuckling around me. Dang, they broke my concentration! I was in the zone...
