  1. As a parent of Timber Creek grads, I feel this and remember how my kids felt to be first-out so many times. We know what that tasted like. Hang in there KC - you're climbing every year and your year will come!
  2. No finals is a real possibility. My fear is that not all bands are able to even perform for prelims. I went down a rabbit hole looking for any official guidance if this were to happen (lots of crazy theories being tossed around among well-meaning parents who have minimal ACTUAL information) and stumbled on this official release from UIL in Oct 2020 regarding this very same potential scenario. https://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/UIL_Area_Marching_Band_Contest_Updated_Weather_Statement.pdf More potential "unprecedented times" I suppose.
  3. Well, *most* of Region 30. Keller ISD is on fall break this week, so Keller, Keller-Central, and Timber Creek will have their Region contest on Thursday, 10/17. Still, barring anything absurd, they should all get 1's which will bring us up to 12 so far. Then we have the LOOOOONNNNGGGG wait until next Tuesday for Region 5.
  4. Highest placement for TC at this contest in school history! Insider info says a lot of changes were made after the judges clinic at HEB, which appear to be clearly reflected in TCs performance and placements just 7 days later at BoA DFW. I agree that this is going to be a great year for them.
  5. I think just the competition has to conclude before midnight. Announcement of results can be after midnight I think.
  6. If I had to guess, I'd speculate that the 12 judges are cumulative across the two days, especially when you consider that 5 of the 12 judges listed for 6A are also listed to judge 2A on Tuesday.
  7. Oh I agree. But being a band parent for a 6A Area B band, we received a tentative schedule today (unlikely it will change after Region 31 goes tomorrow), and Crowley isn't on it.... only 34 bands are listed. #nervous
  8. Crowley was also listed as 5A on the region schedule from last Tuesday... Region+30+UIL+Marching+Contest+Schedule+2023.pdf
  9. 30 have qualified so far, with the last 5 bands of Region 31 doing their region tomorrow (Tues 17 Oct)
  10. With the 99.9% certainty of 35 bands competing, the start time would certainly have to be early.
  11. Sometime either late on Tuesday 10/17 or early Wednesday 10/18 Have to wait for Region 31 on Tues, 10/17
  12. Electronics failures and malfunctions are probably one of the most frustrating things in marching band today (we didn't have electronics on the field back in my days of marching band.) If it hasn't happened to your program, it will, and its probably one of the hardest things to watch as a spectator - all those kids, getting more anxious and nervous by the second as their performance time ticks away, the fear of going over and being penalized, all while expected to perform at their best! Watching Hebron last night, the seconds seemed to go on forever while they worked to fix their electronic issues. That has absolutely nothing to do with the caliber of their performance. But I do agree that it does sit a little uneasy that the recap sheets posted by BoA are cut off at the end and do not include the column that would show any penalties assessed, while all the other recaps from BoA contests thus far this season are not cut off. I think compassion and grace are important things and if the judges chose not to assess penalties to Hebron that is certainly their prerogative. The rules absolutely allow this. A full, uncropped recap sheet would provide full transparency and help to dispel any whispers of favoritism or "special treatment".
  13. In looking at the recaps, its curious that Azle was actually 10th in prelims, but did not make an appearance in finals. Was this perhaps their homecoming weekend? I know several bands have elected not to participate in finals (should they qualify) so their students could participate in homecoming activities.
  14. Hmm. Glenn has a 3:15 prelims performance time on the most recent BoA Prosper schedule. Is time travel part of their show?! 😆
