Maybe I'm missing it, but still think even after watching the YouTube that Lake Ridge is getting to much credit. Their a good band no doubt, but not 6a state band yet.

Does that mean the last band has to play before midnight or that announcement must be over by midnight?

The great thing about UIL versus BOA is that finals is a complete reset and everyone gets another go to put their best show forward.

Southlake has shown over the last two competitions they are not the same band from last year. I believe there is a good potential they would not make state. Duncanville has not participated in anything so unless you have seen them personally it's anyone's guess.

Timber is not going

That doesn't make sense because band 1 and band 2 should already get wildly different scores in music outside of the GE score.

Can someone please expand on General Effect? There is already music and visual..and then again under general effect there is music and visual. The General Effect category changed positions of the bands in wild fashions compared if you just look at Visual and Music combined

Based on these results I wonder if anything actually changed between preliminary and finals and the streak of not breaking top six from bottom six continues

I'm very curious about the spread between Keller, TC, and Bell and how Waxa also fit in more than I care about the typical top

State is not even close to the same as BOA. I've seen bands make significant changes for the SA BOA and UIL State shows.

In reality there are two seperate contests for finals. The 1-6 and the 7-12. Your either the worst of the best or the best of the worst. The point spread often between 6 and 7 is pretty wild and often greater than between 6 and 1 for instance.

I just saw parts of the TC show and it is obviously their most ambitious show yet.

What's even worse than that is predicting a winner before any band has actually done anything. If that isn't bias in a program I don't know what is.

Props, music, pagentry, show, writers ... It all costs big money and only those with the ability spend it will be able to compete at the highest level.

Disregards what in particular? If we are talking about the props and the pageantry. I'd say that is a good thing.

Then we can agree to disagree as it is the main differentiation. Round rock took out their tarp a prop for UIL.. a prop used for BOA.

UIL state placement would say otherwise. Bands like Timber whom did not interact with props beat bands who went to finals in BoA because of props.

Southlake and Timber beat Bell and I guarantee you the idea of someone making a list that doesn't include Bell in th finals would be absurd. I expect one of them to be in it.

Flower mound is a spectacle. Nothing to see here. Hebron deserves to top them.

For UIL I would agree. I would not agree for the top bands for BOA props makes a world of difference. There is no comparison. I was in marching band in the early 90s and have seen the progression to bigger and larger orchestration of props and displays. Their only going to get bigger and more expensive and only the bands with the funds with be at the top.

Theatrical costs money and each year props get bigger and more elaborate. What this causes is a complete separation of the has and has nots. There are great bands that simply will never be able to compete simply because they don't bring in the money to create these large ballet like performances yet people seem to be okay with this year after year. It is unfortunate that that money and ones ability because of it to field elaborate art pieces has completely squashed other programs from being able to compete. This will be the death of marching competition when the only competition is between the bands with the budget.

The whole dance off of BOA needs to change respectfully. It is a marching competition and I've noticed many bands never march more than a minute or so of the entire show compared to the dancing portions.

So preliminary results won't be until after finals?
