  1. I’m having the same issue.
  2. My standout group in that first block was Timberview. Such solid weapon skills and I loved the soundtrack. It’s unfortunate that the stream was down for half of Pflugerville’s show.
  3. I think it’s kindof funny how Cedar Ridge always gets the early performance times at San Antonio, and now their guard goes first at WGI!
  4. Keller Central with the highest score of the day so far.
  5. I only was able to watch the first 3 groups in the third block. Keller Varsity had a very promising show with quite a lot of understated difficulty and I really liked the characterization and movement. However, it was a rough run for them. It also looked as if they had a hole or two?
  6. Paris scored so much lower than I thought they would! I’m kindof shocked, but I guess I haven’t experienced enough winter guard to know how the judges would think. I still love the show!
  7. LOTS of great groups in that second block! Hebron was awesome and I recognized their prop from Carmel’s “A Lot of Strength Left” show. North Lamar and Paris were small but mighty! Paris is traveling to Indy this year I believe, and they are definitely bringing something great!
  8. Keep in mind I haven’t watched a winter guard competition before (just videos here and there). Everyone was great, but my standouts for the first block of A class at WGI Dallas are Berkner and Timberview. Sachse was also very good.
  9. This is huge. Mr. Wilson is an incredible instructor, seriously. He truly has the knack to create a strong community and family out of a band program.
  10. Keller placed 6th in Dayton during the 2018 season. They were 4th overall in prelims so it must’ve been disappointing to be just outside the top 5 in the end. If I had to guess, they probably would’ve self-promoted (at least I think they should’ve) but that was the last season that the guard instructor at the time was with Keller. Last season was a bit of an interesting one as Keller had 2 guards make finals at both the WGI Austin and Dallas regionals in the Scholastic A class. I’ve never seen two groups from the same school do that before, although I’m sure it’s happened.
  11. Area for those classifications is on the 24th. But 3A/5A Area falls on the same day as BOA SA.
  12. While it’s sad to see Leander fall to a classification where they will likely be dominant, I hope that their dominance and status makes other 5A bands really step it up in the future. This change could be really beneficial to the non 6A world. Also, Hendrickson should do well in 5A as they still placed in the top 30 at SA. More competition is a good thing!
  13. I can’t imagine the Coppell uniform costs. They change drastically every year.
  14. Friendswood should have a very good shot at advancing out of A class but the battle to advance out of Open class will be brutal. We desperately need some movement in the Texas guard world since A class is so crowded. Also, it doesn’t help that in the DFW area, Keller was one spot away from moving up in 2018, and now it seems like Wakeland has dropped down from Open class. As much as I am excited to cheer on these Texas guards, I’m always most excited to see what Avon and Carmel do. They have consistently put out pure greatness. Obviously Avon’s past 2 shows have been stunning, but Carmel’s “Emerging” and “A lot of Strength Left” (I love me some Kate Bush ) have to be my favorites from those years. Carmel has always struck me as pretty conservative in design, so it was cool to see them succeed with more quirky and political shows.
  15. I think it was somewhat based off of the movie “Pan’s Labyrinth” but someone can probably explain it much better than I can
  16. Very very excited to see what Friendswood does this year.
  17. Not to brag, but I was right about this after seeing Avon in semis
  18. 4/5 of the top 5 was TX in semis...wow
  19. Round Rock was 11th at Austin prelims and 9th at Nats finals...great job pushing through the season!
  20. Vandegrift’s drill was spotless and in contrast, Carmel’s was noticeably rough around the edges. Also Carmel’s music performance can’t compete with Team Texas. Carmel is in no way weaker this year, but their weaknesses are amplified ten fold by Team Texas.
  21. I can see why Vandegrift beat Avon in visual...they move more than Avon, the drill is perfect, and there is so much simultaneous demand with the insane music while covering the whole field.
  22. Hebron’s music was insane and they did a ton of it on the move ...the drill was big and clean...I kinda want to see them jump over Avon but that’s probably not gonna happen...
  23. Holy crap CTJ..........I....don’t even know what to say. That show peaked at the perfect time. That performance screams championship to me but maybe not in a year that is as stacked as this year...I’ve just never seen a performance that good not medal...or win
