  1. Excellent approximation, @Tubalord11 !!!!! Average of Texas Bands at GN (last 10 events) --- 4.9 2023 --- 8 2022 --- 4 2021 --- 7 2020 --- N/A 2019 --- 6 2018 --- 1 2017 --- 6 2016 --- 5 2015 --- 5 2014 --- 2 2013 --- 5
  2. I will second @packwick’s enthusiastic expectation for the upcoming WGI (including the TCGC and NTCA circuits) season! Here’s an update - As of this past Friday, The Woodlands World Guard has CLEARED the 2024 WGI Scholastic World Championship waitlist and will be competing in Dayton, OH for a third consecutive year!
  3. From my own experience, there is no higher compliment to a teacher than the knowledge that you inspired your own students to teach as well. The Woodlands HS Guard is guided by three of the finest, most creative and energetic teachers I have ever known…led by Cynthia Robbins and ably assisted by Joseph Danforth and Tiffany Quinstein.
  4. Well, maybe BOA heard the discussion. According to the most recent schedule release (10/3), The Woodlands is now in Panel 1 (after the final break at 1:00 pm).
  5. As a member of the Pit Crew, I can confirm that the Gaudi Benches ARE custom made. We utilized aluminum from the 2019-21-22 stage props to fabricate the infrastructure. All of the flooring and steps were created and added by parents. The broken mosaics were printed and are attached for each performance. The bench backs are all removed for transport. The benches will have additional elements applied in the coming weeks, including new paint coloring and further shaping of the bench backs to more closely match the source benches from Barcelona's Park Guell.
  6. Definitely worthy topic for reflection and discussion!
  7. Hey @packwick !! TWHS has rescheduled all rehearsals to evening/night. Even with that, they were limited to just 3.5 hours outside on the field this past week!!! In fact, on Thursday night, once the “feels like” temp was below the district-mandated limit, the band was outside for 6 minutes followed by two lightning delays lasting the remainder of the scheduled rehearsal time (no rain, OF COURSE!). @Rubisco is correct; Part 2 IS on the field. There was just no time solidify the new material completed the last time the band was on the field (Wednesday). The student performers are focused, excited, and working hard. TWHS travels to play Lamar at Delmar Stadium in Houston this week. Because of the travel logistics, the Gaudi Props will make their first appearance the week after next.
  8. Considering they all qualify for UIL State, Claudia Taylor Johnson, Hebron, James Bowie, Round Rock, and The Woodlands will each have a very busy 13 days (Oct. 30 - Nov. 11)!!! …..and it all starts in just two weeks!!!!
  9. It will be a busy Fall for The Woodlands HS Band …… all three!
  10. Hello @stellamo! Yes, it is confirmed. WGI will not publish revised schedules until Thursday’s prior to the Regional. If you go to the 2023 Current Entries for WGI Austin (wgi.org), you will notice that the classification changes are noted there (Flower Mound now in SW; Jordan in SO). Enjoy the show!
  11. Hey @LeanderMomma! Jordan HS has also just been promoted; from A Class to Open Class (and will be attending WGI Austin)! You mentioned in this week’s On A Water Break podcast that you weren’t familiar with Jordan HS. Jordan is the newest HS in Katy ISD. This is their 3rd year in existence and first year with four full classes of students. They made the BOA Shenandoah Finals this past fall! I’m expecting great things from this program (plus my daughter is their 1st Assistant Director 😉)! As a longtime proud supporter and Floor Crew member of TWHS Guards, I’m looking forward to seeing you again in Austin on Sunday (I’ll be at the WGI Katy Percussion Regional Saturday to watch my son’s performance with Austin’s Rhythmic Force).
  12. The 5’s mean that the piece is a ‘Grade 5’ as noted in the Texas PML (Prescribed Music List). ‘X’s’ mean that the piece is not in the PML. Marches are not graded. If there are two ‘X’s’, that means that a piece (non-march) is new and has not been yet been graded and listed in the PML. To play one of these pieces, directors must petition and have Texas UIL Music approve the selection.
  13. …..and assistant, Lauren Batchelor!
  14. The University of Oklahoma’s “Pride of Oklahoma”
  15. Rest well, my Young Pinecone. I think TWHS is going to be just fine. Weather was an issue, but some of the soloists were affected by a wayward synthesizer. This was rectified after tonight’s show and should be sounding great tomorrow night. Regarding Maybe This Time, I can understand your concerns. Jack Clark on tenor sax is doing an absolutely AMAZING job! FROM MY PERSPECTIVE though, I think the edits (adding to the melodic color palette [i.e. French Horns] and tightening-up one phrase), are working. Even though you may have just seen the changes at Area, they have actually been incorporating the updated sets/music for more than a couple of weeks. We are all very excited about tomorrow night’s performance! I hope you are too!!!
  16. @OakEm2021 I do apologize. My response was certainly not made to be boastful or unsupportive. It was more based on the fact that very few areas (I only noticed one) that posted results from last week’s 1A/3A/5A competition included prelim recaps. Most did not publicly post anything beyond finals results, therefore not much is officially made known. The level of performance in Region 9 bands has been exceedingly high, especially in the recent seasons. I consider many of the directors in the region friends who I respect a great deal. The work they do and the achievement of all of their students are truly amazing. I know that College Park, Klein Oak, Tomball Memorial, Oak Ridge, and Klein Cain are going to represent our region magnificently.
  17. #1 of the Area F “finalists”, yes. #2 in Prelims, actually; behind a great band who had a VERY strong performance today (and 5 first-place votes). Looking forward to Friday night in San Antonio!
  18. ……and Ryan was my old band student at Westfield HS from Fall 2001 through Spring 2005!
  19. I will set you up. I’ll actually be announcing this year ?

I’m so sorry to hear about you medical issues.  I hope that you are doing some better. I’ll check in with you first of next week.

    Take care,

    Chris

      Thank you so much!

Yes, I continue to do better and better. All my medical restrictions have been lifted, now it is a matter of time to get my strength and stamina back. I was intubated and sedated for 9 or 10 days after surgery, then was put on a ventilator for another 9 days or so. When you don't move for a week+ you lose all muscle tone and the climb back up is rough.

      Take care Chris!

      Thanks,

      Michael

  20. Agreed! That good staff includes Fort Bend Clements director Daniel Galloway leading this new program and assisted by my daughter, Lauren Batchelor (proud Dad here).... ..... plus Meredith Owen (guard) and Ethan Ahmad (percussion). Excited to see this group in the years to come.
  21. ....and that third place was with ONLY 9th and 10th graders!
  22. I’m sorry to hear that! Just know, when you are ever back our way, I’ll be keeping a seat for you!
  23. And the assistant director; my daughter! Yes; all the best to the Jordan High School Band!
