I just hope I don't have to race for a good seat going into finals because a director decides to put their band around the 50 yardline. Had it happen to me at BOASA and it was heartbreaking :') seating feels even more limited here with how closed off it is. -

Yeah...π I went up the elevator and ended up a half a level lower than judges and decided to walk back down for concessions. Immediately got confronted by security questioning how I got in and whether or not I was a spectacular or student. It's also odd how the away side is off limits. -

potential CR penalty? they had a prop stuck on the end zone maybe due to the bottleneck between entering/exiting bands but... hopefully it doesn't affect them :') -

today's the daaayy yay band ! -
Fairly solid list imo, it feels right for the current field. I'd maybe swap Waxahachie with Round Rock but it'll come down to their prelims run. Honestly BOASA '24 is starting to feel similar in difficulty to BOASA '17. There's a lot of good bands and it's going to be a tough fight to make it into finals. Insane that there's only about 3-4 weeks left in the TX marching season. With the ever growing field of competitiveness in TX I shall restart my campaign for making SA Super Regional into Grand Nats South βπ

Not so much a prolific commentor but maybe prolific lurker but...Between my partner and I it's a combination of all of the above. We're pretty central in TX so we're able to attend BOA Austin, Waco, San Antonio and UIL contests plus any showcases the ISDs have. Otherwise it's videos online, tuning into football livestreams if we're free, or looking at contest results. I'm not one for sports but I treat marching season like it's fantasy football to add fun lol

1. Cedar Ridge 2. Bowie 3. Westlake/Timber Creek I don't think I expect a finals caption sweep unless maybe CR really locks in on Saturday with cleaning from their TMC tapes. Bowie could probably snag one away. I could see Dripping Springs fighting for 3rd w/Westlake & Timber Creek but probably settling around 4th or 5th. Imo, I think TMC gave light to a more realistic placement among their neighboring highschools. Darn you BOA for breaking up Austin with the Central TX Regional π Maybe Henny and M&GJ next to each other in the middle of placements. I'm not familiar with everyone else's game so I can't say much to the rest of the placements π -

UIL 5A State Marching Contest 2023
Miyazuu replied to Dave609's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
To be quite honest I haven't followed up much on them since...oof maybe...2019? So I wouldn't doubt they're doing well still. I know they kind of gained their footing again around 2015, assuming that's when their new director following Mr. Nelson took over. They were a pretty big competitor in the valley pre-pioneer. As for the rocky part, I know the program went through a rough patch following the opening of Pioneer HS, it cut the members and the diffusion of middle schoolers also affected that. Mr. Nelson had also lost a lot of his passion at that point as well, plus there was a lot of negative politics that followed the band due to him. Things seem to have gotten better once he retires and they got their new director whose full name I can't remember besides Mr. P. Although I do wonder if Sanchez, Rocha, and Van Epps are still there π€ Either way, go rattlers π -
UIL 5A State Marching Contest 2023

Oh yay it's so nice to see valley bands place well against Central/North Texas bands! I wish things didn't get so rocky for Sharyland in the last couple years, I would've loved to see them be alongside Pioneer. -
I think we're at a misunderstanding. You had actually commented on my post back in September asking me to call out which parents were making negative remarks on another program, so I'd believe we're on the same page that it's not something that should be done in the stands, speaking negatively of others just to be clear. The other person wasn't simply stating they have mics, that would be fair commentary. They're pointing out that it's "weird to credit" Rouse for volume if they're mic'd. While pointing out mic use is fine, this is now the second occurrence I've seen where Vista aligned individuals speak negatively on Rouse specifically by pointing out their mic use, which again, a lot of bands use. Even saying their success in volume is tied with money. Even without mics, Rouse has some serious volume, and it's not like the judges can't tell the difference.

Oh, wow. I posted back in September during BOA Austin about audience members (who I didn't want to say were Vista parents/volunteers at the time) talking negatively about Rouse and their mic use. Now it's the end of the season and it seems like nothing's changed, a vista tied individual talking negatively about Rouse volume. I wouldn't be shocked if you were the person I was sitting near at that time, I can only hope it's not a trend in the parents, your complaints are the same lmfao. A lot of programs mic, I'm not sure why Vista people have a reoccurring issue with Rouse's use of them.
