I can only chalk it up to weird judging. Moon gave them 9th/10th for prelims/finals whereas the other judges had more realistic placements. I think that sunk them just outside of qualifying, their performance was arguably better than some of the others last night. Definitely gonna be weird to not see them at state given last year. It's a shame they couldn't defend any of their previous titles (1st Katy, 1st Perc State, 3rd State Finals) this year.

🥲 they got mooned....rip CR finals threepeat...I hope they go nuts at BOA SA but if not, it's time to start a redemption arc.

To be completely honest I could've seen McNeil fighting for an advancement spot! You've definitely been in the discussion around a couple people Y'all are doing really well this year and I'm so so excited for the future of RRISD. I'm hoping for the day we can see all of RRISD sitting in finals together at BOA/State. That trumpet soloist is killer too, I hope he gets his flowers. All the kids seem pretty passionate this year About CR- How sad, I hadn't seen their reaction from where I was in the stands during announcements. I really hope the kids are CR are okay 😕 I can't imagine the surprise. I'm really baffled at the results of the competition. Edit: rewording n what not

Btw, does Westwood still plan on attending St. Louis since they made State? St. Louis > State > BOA SA back to back feels a bit intense. I recall RRs State > BOA SA > Nats saga resulted in minor injuries and general fatigue throughout the band. I certainly hope the kids are allowed to rest when they can, no break between St. Louis and State seems killer.

Congratulations to all state qualifiers! On a side note, which I meant to post during finals but alas... To Westwood parents (and all parents really): there needs to be some internal discussion regarding etiquette in the stands. Your excitement for your bands entrance is admirable, it's great to see such support for a program. Although, your attitude towards another band during their performance is distasteful. I've already been frustrated with general bad audience etiquette across all of the contests I've been to so far this season, but I feel like laughing at color guard drops in a show is kinda a new low. While a few don't define a nation, a general re-emphasis in audience etiquette would be best going forward. I don't know what's in the air this year but with every competition I find myself wanting to leave after being in the stands with parents for awhile. WW is an egregious example but it's been embarrassingly bad all around with parents this season.

In my opinion, it feels a little out of place for vandy given their last three years of dynamic shows. Visually, I'm so used to their beautiful props all around the field that the show as a whole feels kind of "empty" and not as alluring. I guess I'm also feeling a little confused on the overall vibe given by the music, but I can say that for a lot of programs this year so far. Although, that trombone gliss is SO GOOD. BOA Austin felt really... under developed this year compared to the last. It seems like a lot of programs have yet to click with their shows, maybe that's just me though, plus it's only the beginning.

For all we know there's a sleeping laptop with the final recap currently stuck on the draft submission page alongside it's owner under the assumption it's been posted and taken care of. 🤭 I hope it gets posted soon because these scores are about to be interesting.

It was admittedly a lil funny to watch them see their band to not receive the placement they expected and rank lower than the one they were shaming, a bit of instant karma almost. Although, their band placed high anyways so it's still something to brag over if they'd so like. It's just so disappointing to see parents rag on the kids on the field, makes no sense to me. I hope you're doing better though! Marching injuries suck, especially during a competition 😣 I hope your season goes well this year if you're still a part of the activity!

It's tough out here 🥲 last week was so nice I was on my knees praying it would be like that for BOA Aus...nope,,instead we suffered 😵‍💫. Those kids are troopers for sticking it out in uniforms.

I think the competition was already moved to start earlier with the purpose to end prelims in time before the *worst* part of the day. It's been routinely miserable in Texas so I'm sure they prepared for such a scenario. I imagine if anything they would've made bands who performed around 1pm perform after 7pm and then immediately go into finals? Similar to when they pause for rain and continue after. That would be my guess, I doubt they'd cancel the day or move it to another weekend as it would skew a lot of programs schedules.

I can see this perspective being the case for now since it's just the start of the contest season. It did feel like a lot of shows were..."quiet/empty" during a lot of their movements, perhaps lacking visuals or little musical quirks (CR comes to mind, given that Midnight Hour was so busy) that seem exicting but I imagine those will be added once they get the foundation put out. On a side note- would anyone happen to have any sneak peaks into FloMo 🥲 I won't be able to catch them live this season so I'd love to see what they're up to. Plus CTJ, I don't think I've seen anything from them yet.

A bit unrelated but- It's a bit disappointing to experience band parents/volunteers make negative comments in the stands on other programs who they're competing against. I just wish they were a lil more mindful of their surroundings 🙃. Although, it's a bit ironic that the band they were shaming for "not actually being loud" ended up winning the whole competition. On a better note, absolutely crazy turn of events with Rouse, it's quite the come-up. Top 1-5 is definitely gonna be a toss up as the season progresses. It's aboutta be a whirlwind of a month as we start our journey to state/nats.

Agreed, definitely feels like such a change from their last three years. I didn't feel the visual package was as engaging as before but it's early season so I'm sure there's more to come, especially from vandy
