You must be at least 18 years old and have previous experience in marching band, drum & bugle corps, winter guard, indoor percussion or other percussion ensemble. All members pay annual dues to participate. We are a small, new corps with ambitions to grow in size and competitiveness. A wise man once said,
  4. "corps"
  5. I like the fact that... "you choose any eight of your favorite performances of all-time. Selections can be made from more than 400 corps performances from 1974-2006, including those that have been featured in previous versions of the Classic Countdown." I think this might make it the best DCI countdown yet.
  6. Your directory needs to be updated. There are a lot of schcools not listed. It would be awesome to have a database with all school band websites listed as well.
  7. Nope. There's a reson why you don't see convertible Euphoniums in DCI. The regular bell front marching Euphs are better. And personally I think it's looks silly to carry a Euph on the shoulder compared to a Tuba.
  8. Was Sean Snyder there teaching tubas when you auditioned?
  9. Quite a few Texas students in Blue Stars. Some from Houston, Dallas, Corpus Christi even!
  10. The Austin Stars next rehearsal camp will take place on Saturday, January 20th.from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lockhart High School, 906 Center Street, Lockhart, TX. Click here for more info.www.austinstars.org Positions open in all sections especially trumpets, tubas and front ensemble (pit). We are also still looking for additional board members and instructors. Send resume's to info@austinstars.org.
  11. Those are convertible euphoniums, not baritones.
  12. The Austin Stars next rehearsal camp will take place on Saturday, January 20th.from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Lockhart High School, 906 Center Street, Lockhart, TX. http://austinstars.org/main/index.php?opti...&id=17&Itemid=2
  13. Can anyone out there list the marching bands in Texas that use over-the-shoulder (contra bass style) marching tubas instead of Sousaphones?
  14. It's all on the website. http://www.austinstars.org Next camp is Saturday, January 20th. Exact time and location will be announced soon and it will be posted on the website. We rehearse about once per month in the winter and spring just like DCI corps but in the summer we still only rehearse and peform on weekends. This allows our members to keep their jobs or go to summer school. Dues are only $275 this year. What other info can I give you? Email me at theaustinstars@gmail.com
  15. Blue Stars are an excellent organization. I was on staff last year and they were a very well run corps... treat the kids well and feed them good, too. We also had a few free days in Chicago and Denver.
  16. The Austin Stars Performing Arts Association was founded in February 2006 with the purpose of offering performance opportunities to people of all ages. Our initial offering will be that of an all-age "senior" drum & bugle corps. Membership in the Austin Stars is open to anyone any age with previous experience playing brass or percussion in marching band, indoor drumline or drum & bugle corps. Currently we have members aged from the teens all the way to 40's. Check out our FAQ page. http://austinstars.org/main/index.php?opti...id=10&Itemid=29
  17. Austin Stars Drum & Bugle Corps is in need of a few more talented trumpet players. Check out our webiste www.austinstars.org and come to our next rehearsal on January 20th in Lockhart, Texas. http://austinstars.org/main/index.php?opti...&id=17&Itemid=2 www.austinstars.org
  18. Ok, so there are a million DCI corps having auditions in Texas and of course there's our home state corps Revolution and Crossmen. (Personally I hope you'll support Revolution 'cause they were here first!) But what if you.... A. Don't make the audition or get cut. B. Can't afford the dues. C. Need to keep your summer job. D. Have to go to summer school. E. Can't miss summer band camp. There are plenty of options in Texas now and... yes you guessed it... it's all-age corps. These groups have monthy winter camps like DCI corps but during the summer they only rehearse on weekends and most performances are on weekends as well. On top of that the dues for these groups are sometimes 75% less than DCI corps. This is also a chance for you to get some real-time drum corps experience under your belt and prepare you for next years DCI auditions. In the Dallas/Ft.Worth area there's Frontier. http://www.frontiercorps.org. Open to all ages. Under 18 must have a parent, family member or band director involved with the corps as well. In the Houston area is Gulf Coast Sound. http://www.gulfcoastsound.org. Open to age 18 and up. In the Austin/San Antonio area is Austin Stars. http://www.austinstars.org Open to all ages with previous marching experience. Also in the Austin/San Antonio area is World Gone Mad. http://www.worldgonemad.net Open to age 21 and up. There's a place in Texas for everyone to do drum corps no matter what age!
  19. The Austin Stars are happy to announce the addition of Chris Montemayor to the position of percussion caption head and arranger. Chirs is the percussion head for the Texas State 3A semi-finalist Taylor High School marching band. He also wrote and taught for the Lockhart and Smithville high school bands this year. For the previous 6 years, he was the instructor and arranger for the Dripping Springs HS band percussion section. Chris is an alumnus of Southwest Texas State University where he studied percussion performance and music education. The Austin Stars are a new all-ages drum & bugle corps and will hold its first Open House and inaugural rehearsal on Saturday, November 18, 2006 from 9am to 3 pm. at Taylor High School, 3101 North Main St. in Taylor, Tx. There will be an informative meeting with Q&A and a video presentation in the morning followed by a brass and percussion rehearsal in the afternoon. Membership in the corps is open to people of all ages who have previous experience in marching band, drum & bugle corps, color guard or drumline. For more information visit the corps website WWW.AUSTINSTARS.ORG or call 512-964-9114.
