  1. Hey hey now..be nice! I know you guys go through more pain than we do, but you also have to imagine holding about..iono, 5 pounds (I've never weighed my instrument..) on one solitary thumb? It actually makes your wrist hurt if you play long enough (*shudders and thinks about concert band sectionals*)
  2. Well, our (Drum_Major's, Cv_Baritone or whatever Nessa's sn is, and mine) band director doesn't approve of doing laps and stuff...that was actually brought up at that section leader meeting we had. I personally think it should be used for punishment, but that's just me. Oh, I'm sure holding a horn up wouldn't kill you, but it wouldn't feel so hot. I wouldn't know, because i'm a clarinet player and we don't hold our horns UP. I feel for the people that do, though...
  3. Things that never happen: "We DO NOT THROW WATER!" (of course, it happens like, every break)
  4. Jeez Nessa, how did I know that CvS Baritone Section Leader was you?! Haha..anyway, I totally agree with you with the DM thing..I didn't make it either and you dont see me getting negative or anything. I understand that there are other circumstances with all this, but in my case, I'm content with being clarinet section leader and I can only hope she can be as content, eventually. Anyway, Ralph, here's what I want you to know: I (and I know Nessa will too) will help any way I can..just tell me when you need help with this sort of stuff and I will be there. We're on your side....
  5. Wow, I thought i was the only one that felt that way!
  6. Wait...I meant the slow one was easy to read....that's the 2nd one right? Oh, I don't have the music with me now. Grr
  7. Yeah, after I made the post I actually played my music for more than 20 minutes and the 2nd movement was effing easy......I'm not the greatest sightreader and I got that down the first time. I've been working more with the 1st one, and it doesn't seem like it's so bad after all. The 3rd one is iffy...I liked last year's clarinet music a lot better-I'm not sure why, though.
  8. I had a scratchy throat from shouting our chant (I guess that's what you'd call it) for dismissal a million times and I was also just plain groggy from going to bed at 3AM and waking up at 6:30..I think the only time I've been sore from band was when I was a freshman and i wasn't used to marching at all
  9. Well, if you go by that, then it would be the clarinets who dominate because last year, 4 of us tried out and made area band. But the_drum_major is right....we have a really strong woodwind section and I don't think there is any section out of all the woodwinds that exactly dominates. We're all equally awesome
  10. These are all MY personal "You know when your a band nerd when.." moments -When you dream of marching your high school's show and have the exact spots hit right (I did that at the end of last year's marching season) -When you come up with a name for your instrument (Mine is Claire Annette..gee, who would have guessed?) -When you and your friends walk in step down the school hallway -When you roll step to get through a puddle of water, praying it won't get your feet wet (which I did..and it worked!) -When you come up with key words in relation to the current year's marching show to ask simple questions (for example: "Zarabanda?" meant "What time is it?" or "How much longer until the end of practice?" my freshman year, when our show was "The Music of Karl Jenkins") -When someone else can come up to you and ask, "Hey, you got any 3.5's?" and you know exactly what they're talking about -When you know who "Herman" is (Almost everyone went to the one junior high we have in our city, and Herman was our jr.high band director's tuner..he was replaced my 8th grade year with Herman the Second) -When you realize that when your band director doesn't repeat everything three times (ex: "Don't forget black socks!" x3), you forget what he said to bring or to do -When you have a strange looking tanline from where your leg and your socks meet (I'm a clarinet player,so I don't have the neckstrap thing going on) -When you know the few basic rules of the CHS Band: Don't speak unless spoken to, never sit where the upperclassmen sit (we tend to sit according to our chair arrangement last year, lol) when you're an underclassmen, never move another clarinet player's instrument in the cubbyhole so you can put YOURS there and to never ever play another person's instrument unless asked to directly from the band director -When you have to plan your StuCo meetings around band practices (I'm StuCo VP, so I can do that! Hahaha) -When you have a 'parking spot' in the pick-up area by the band hall (there are no real parking spots,FYI)
  11. I don't think it's just you...the clarinet music is a little harder than last year, because one of them has us playing across the break (like, a low C to a middle Eb..well, I'm not sure if those are EXACT notes, but you get the idea), which sucks. But I guess it seems harder because I don't know it very well
  12. The clarinet music is more difficult than I thought! But my goal is to make All-State..and to actually ace region this year (I injured my right index finger and had to get stitches before last year's auditions but tried out anyway and made 1st alternate).
  13. Hey..I was wondering if anyone knew the times and possible costs to see the SCV at Deer Park? I really want to go, but have never been to one of these things b4,lol..well, thanks to whoever can tell me and not make me feel like a complete idiot
  14. Billy Madison is THE BEST Adam Sandler movie ever! I especially like the whole, "STOP LOOKING AT ME SWAN!" thing, haha
