And all of the Area A bands finishing 38th, 37th, and 36th... that is genuinely so crazy to me

i have always thought that there was a negative bias towards bands from South Texas/East Texas. I still think it exists, but it isn't as big as I made it out to be in my head. I think that Roma getting their much deserved spot in 5A State finals somewhat cements that. I will say that there is definitely not as much love or help that bands could receive in South Texas compared to other prominent areas, which makes Roma's accomplishments (as well as the accomplishments of many great bands in South Texas) much stronger in my opinion. I will say that it is more than possible for the students of JBA and Hanna to over exceed what people think they can. These two groups are some of the best that South Texas has to offer, so we, as a community, should back them strongly and give them the support they more than deserve. They don't deserve to be supported any less than the band that you thought should have made it.

what do you mean 3 bands would advance? I thought it would be 2 because of the amount of bands

Yeah, I feel like this Area always has upsets, especially in where bands are placed (i.e. Hanna being slotted towards the bottom last year), but also in who gets into finals in general. Bands are going to be going hard at practice until this competition, so we make see big improvements and changes from bands that we didn't expect.

this is going to be an even more cutthroat competition compared to previous years now that we know only 2 bands will be advancing to state
