  1. So the same people are judging but they judge different categories?
  2. It is crazy (in a good way) that bands are BETTER after Covid. This year’s 5A prelim was soo good!
  3. I think this is very much in the ballpark but it will be so interesting to see where things land when it’s all done. I am too nervous to venture a guess. Dang…stacked final with also some notable bands missing. All of these shows are so unique…the judges have their work cut out for them. It really was a fantastic day of stunning performances. And one of my favorite parts was hearing from all the drum majors at the end. Band kids truly are the best kids!!
  4. Earlier today some of our folks said it was fun and parked nearby...but it's an easy walk.
  5. Excited for Block 2!
  6. Today is the day! Good luck to all 5A bands in prelims today! I can't believe it's time... 😃
  7. Never mind. Both prelims and finals are now up on the UIL website.
  8. Any idea how we can find this kind of sheet - with prelims - for other areas? I can only seem to find the final results.
  9. Not sure about anyone else's band, but we are seeing some sick kiddos. I think they are just worn out! I'm personally very glad that my student's band is not participating in a contest on Saturday. They are leaving for San Antonio early Sunday, and I think it would have been a beating to compete all day/evening on Saturday and leave the next day. I think the day of extra rest will help them.
  10. I noticed there were several schools separated by a single point at various Area finals. It's all going to make for a terrific state championship where all the bands get to shine on the biggest stage. I'm thrilled for these bands, their directors, the parents...making great music matters, and all of these programs have worked so hard, not to mention dealing with a very challenging 2020. I can't wait to cheer for every single one!
  11. Does anyone know if the prelim scores are available anywhere for this Area?
  12. Southlake has a lot of momentum right now, and after last weekend their confidence has to be up! But, like you said, it's going to be a very tough competition. So many terrific bands. I'm also not counting out Lake Highlands.
  13. I would like to say that I loved Pine Tree’s show and think there is much, MUCH more ahead for that band. I think all the ingredients are there. Well done!
  14. These are the finalists, In draw order, I believe: Poteet North Forney Royce City Forney Sulphur Springs Red Oak Highland Park
  15. After Prelims I still think Forney and Highland Park lead for the first two spots (not sure what order). Picking a third will be hard! Let’s see what happens in Finals! Good luck to all! Really nice performances by all these bands today! Great band day…
  16. Nice first half! Boy is it windy!! Challenging day for colorguard, especially!
  17. The managing time stress is REAL! As a parent helping to crew on the field with a show that has a fair amount of props, I was terrified that we'd not get our fronts off the field in two minutes. Serious anxiety! I was so happy when we crossed the line with time to spare. I just kept thinking, "If we mess this up, we have killed this for our kids." Having one more minute to get off the field sure would be nice.
  18. I would like to see an interesting final. I wonder if the new scoring will shake things up. No idea!
  19. My understanding is that three groups from Area C will advance to state. Nineteen bands qualified for Area, but seven are military bands that are not competing in Area. So I hope that's right because I would love to see three bands go!
  20. The schedule for Area C 5A is out: Sulphur Springs - 2 p.m. Pine Tree - 2:15 p.m. Highland Park - 2:30 p.m. Mount Pleasant - 2:45 p.m. Forney - 3 p.m. North Forney - 3:15 p.m. BREAK Poteet - 3:45 p.m. West Mesquite - 4 p.m. Texas High - 4:15 p.m. Royse City - 4:30 p.m. Crandall - 4:45 p.m. Red Oak - 5 p.m. Exhibition by Texas A&M Commerce - 5:15 p.m. Announcement of Finalists - 5:30 p.m. Finals - 7:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. Final Results - 9:30 p.m. Best of luck to all bands!
  21. Yup, Saturday is what matters. Every band has been working to fix all the little things (and, in some cases, big things). It's all about execution now, and those who have worked on the right things and put in the work will likely have a good day on Saturday. Best of luck to all!
  22. Thank you so much for doing this!
  23. There are still more region contests to go (rescheduled because of weather). There are a few that have contests Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week. Then Area contests next weekend.
  24. I saw the Duncanville show last weekend. I agree with this description. The show could be great - lots of potential, and I thought it was visually interesting. It's just not quite there yet. I felt like they had just learned all of it and was performing it for the first time. But if they really dig in and get it tight, it could go a long way.
  25. How does College Station look this year? I haven't seen them.
