  1. I kind of want to hear Duncanville's tape, now. Congratulations Duncanville
  2. Do you know how they figure out what the listening order will be?
  3. Good luck to you. The area level for sax is tough. Some of the judges last year looked for phrasing, while some looked mainly for technical aspects of the piece.
  4. Will be the first flute player in a DCI show. Talk about diversity!
  5. I thought I was reading a dissertation at first.
  6. I'm not sure what they're playing, but I know they're having a split-up in their schools... so it's possible that's what the person was referring to. Also, The Dark Knight was a pretty good movie. Joker made it worthwhile.
  7. Oh yeah, you guys are doing that Hannah Montana-themed show, right?
  8. I know it was posted on theyellowboard, so your best bet would be checking there. I skimmed over the list, and there's quite a few playing Music for Prague, 1968... or whatever the arrangement is. March from Symphonic Metamorpheses (sp) showed up several times, too.
  9. E3 - Electronic Entertainment Expo What? -- Every July, the video game industry holds an annual electronic entertainment convention in Santa Monica, California (for 2008, July 15-17). E3 is arguably the largest and most PR-related convention in the world directly related to electronic entertainment. Being this large and momentous, many game companies (ie Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony) tend to announce their biggest and latest projects at this convention. Many press conferences are held, much information is released, and there are usually plenty of surprises. This event is open only to industry professionals and the press directly involved. However, that doesn't mean we can't find anything out. Throughout E3 2008, I'll be updating this thread with links to live videos and press conferences, important links, and the latest information regarding what goes on at this convention. Last E3... Rock Band, Call of Duty 4, and Wii Fit were among some of the games unveiled. (in the past, this is where the Wii, the DS, the XBox, and the Playstations were revealed... so this IS a legitimate convention) This E3... it's likely we could see some new portable hardware, new information regarding game franchises (*cough* Zelda)... but I wouldn't expect any big console hardware announcements. But then again...E3 is always a surprise, and you never know what you're going to see. And... we already have a surprise! Texas' own governor, Rick Perry, will be speaking at this year's E3. Surprise? For more details, head to e3expo.com. In the meantime, feel free to discuss your thoughts on the game industry and what you think we'll be seeing at E3 2008. I don't really expect there to be much discussion since this is a "band" forum ; not to mention the activity sort of dries up during the summer months. Hopefully we can keep this thread active, though! As for my opinions... I'm a bit biased (I'm hardcore into Nintendo)... so I research Nintendo more than I do any other game hardware/software development company. That's not to say I ignore Sony or Microsoft, though. Brief summary of what I think: As for "who will win E3', it's too early to tell. I'm expecting mostly software (including cell phone software) announcements this year around (like last year), with possibly small hardware announcements (I'm thinking handhelds are going to be getting more publicity than they usually do this year). I'm predicting that Microsoft's main focus will be on their XBox Live service, and I'm thinking Sony is going to be showing off some software that takes full advantage of HD. As for Nintendo, definitely some more software announcements that fit both the casual and hardcore crowd of gaming, and there's also a rumor that a new version of the DS is going to be released... this isn't that hard to believe since the DS is currently the number one selling piece of video game hardware. What are your thoughts?
  10. I'm happy for Coppell. I had figured beforehand it would be either them or Spring advancing with Duncanville.
  11. That Super Regional at San Antonio in 2007 was probably the MOST competitive marching contest I had ever been a part of (very close with UIL 5A State Marching). All the bands I saw were exceptionally well prepared and, in my opinion, totally blew any recent contest away. We aren't competing in the Super Regional this year since we're going to be aiming mainly at UIL... is there a tentative listing of the bands participating in the SA Super Regional already? This next marching season is guaranteed not to disappoint... can't wait! Personally, I'm looking forward to see what Bowie has in store. I've always thought their drill was really precise, accurate, and original; not to mention well charted. I don't think Coppell is given enough credit, either. Really looking forward to seeing their performance.
  12. Ok... Michael has heard the music, and all we've heard down here are rumors. How does that work (I've heard the possible opener, but that's it. It's all still rumor)? Montoya, you haven't been double-dealing now, hmm? XD I've got the name of the show, the colorguard outfit design, and an idea of what it's going to be. As far as what music we'll have... I'd kind of like to know.
  13. Man... I'm really sorry that happened to you guys. If I was the director (and knew more of the situation), good chance I'd take appropriate legal action. It's not too too late to form something up, though...
  14. If you ever pass by New Braunfels, definitely check out the homefront Schlitterbahn there. It beats all of the rest; hands-down. This past year we went to Disney World (once every 4 years). The other years we usually take a 3-4 day spring trip in-state.
  15. Oh, the Yellow Board... I see.
  16. So all area judging contests have to be complete before June 30th? I'm interested, Xenon, where are you getting all these results so quickly?
  17. We've always talked about GN, but I think we've always figured a trip to the SA Super Regionals is just as good competitively (definitely more cost-reasonable). I do agree, it would be a lot of fun to see some new Texas bands make their way to Indianapolis. For us, however, I doubt that will happen anytime soon. Our school district is really pinching the pennies right now (apparently the district has a 4 million dollar deficit currently). The district only allows us to go on 1 out-of-state trip every 4 years, as well. Disney World, or GN once every 4 years?
  18. Our program always seems to elect DMs later than everyone else. Our judge tryout is on the 13th, and our student tryout is on the 20th; we find out on the 28th.
  19. Southwest? We heard you guys yesterday at State Wind Ensemble. Great job with Redline Tango; I could swear you guys were 5A. Awesome job all around. You have some great saxes, too. Don't take 'em for granted.
  20. Mmm... the whole DM speculation is already starting? ;P Don't know too much about the show... but it will be an awesome state year; guaranteed. Looking forward to seeing you all at contests.
  21. You guys are playing Awayday? That's an awesome piece. We were going to play it, but we switched it for a Ticheli piece.
  22. Alright, here's our HB schedule... I'm fairly sure it's final: 1. Fourth of July (March) 2. Lincolnshire Posy (Highlight) -- Mvmt 5? I think Mvmt 3 is even more confusing 3. Ticheli's Symphony No. 2 for band (Mvmt 1: Shooting Stars and Mvmt 3: Apollo Unleashed) We did play Postcard last year by Ticheli... and I can truthfully say I didn't like it one bit. I don't really care for his composition style that much. His percussive stuff is great, but overall the ensemble arrangement seems almost too contemporary for me.
  23. So far, our Honor Band program consists of: Fourth of July (march) Lincolnshire Posey (highlight) We're still sightreading to figure out our 3rd... it's possible we might play a Ticheli piece.
  24. Flutter tongue? Impressive. We're actually playing that piece currently for our annual fundraiser concert. How do you go about flutter tonguing? "SLA-VA!"
  25. Sorry to hear that. I understand how you're feeling, though. Happened to me New Year's Day on a date that I spent a lot of time planning. Look forward, don't look back. DS? nice! You need to get Mario Kart, I want to race you Wi-Fi. *looks at gifts* An iPod clock stereo system (like an iHome, but made by a different company) Zelda jacket Super Mario Galaxy for Wii new wallet some cologne some money accessories for iPod My cousin is going to install an ipod/cd stereo system into my truck, too. I'm thankful. Hope everyone had a great and memorable Christmas.
