BOA Arlington Prelims Results
mbui replied to Danpod's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
BOA classification is determined between 10-12th grades within the school size not band size. -
May I remind you this...... Since 2000, the Music Performance caption winner at Grand Nationals Finals: 2001: L.D. Bell HS 2003: Westfield HS 2004: Stephen F. Austin HS 2005: Ronald Reagan HS 2006: L.D. Bell HS 2007: L.D. Bell HS 2009: Marcus HS And, let's not forget that in the 1990's when Westfield won in 1990, Duncanville in 1991, Spring in 1993 and Westfield in 1995. And, this was when hardly any Texas bands went to Nationals. Texas bands play better. Midwest bands march better.

2010 BOA Fall Schedule
mbui replied to Visualstrm's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I highly doubt any of the south Houston schools will withdraw. It's not 2 1/2 hours to get to get to Conroe. It's about 45-60 minutes from Sugar Land & Pearland. Brazoswood is the most southern school near the Gulf and it only takes about an hour and a half to Conroe. They've been to Conroe a plenty amount of times for the Lone Star Preview. I don't think moving out of Pearland will affect any of the attendance be it if you're from Houston or not. -

Originally scheduled as a one-day event at the San Antonio, Texas Alamodome, it will now be held as a two-night outdoor event taking place on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25. "We delayed making an announcement on the details surrounding the Southwestern Championships while we were working through an unanticipated scheduling conflict with the Alamodome," said Susan Kuehnhold, Director of Events for Drum Corps International.

UIL Classification Realignment
mbui replied to mbui's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I do not believe there is a rule in place that says if you switch classes after realignment, you are not allowed to participate in State that year. For example: Cedar Park won UIL 4A State in 2001 and participated in UIL 5A State in 2002. Richland won UIL 4A State in 2003 and participated in UIL 5A State in 2004. I realize these two schools moved up and not down a class but it wouldn't make sense if there was a such rule. -
UIL reclassifies schools every two years. To view the entire breakdown of the realignments, go to UIL's website at: http://www.uil.utexas.edu/ A few notables: Moving down to 4A is Cedar Park, Creekview, John B. Connally, Mansfield Summit, Vista Ridge Moving up to 5A is Mansfield Legacy, Mansfield Timberview, Seguin

2009: Bands of America Grand Nationals
mbui replied to mbui's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
It's not Brazoswood that is going down hill, it's bands in Texas that are stepping up their game. And, Brazoswood is included in that group as well. Trust me, I'm from Brazoria County and I've been following Brazoswood since I've lived here. Daniel Montoya and Kevin Nix are one of the best things that has ever happened to their marching band program. Their designs are what put Brazoswood on the map. -
How does your band rehearse
mbui replied to I MARCH's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
How much does the band rehearse? 8 hours a week. Just kidding. -
Pretty big composer for wind band. His well known works include The Divine Comedy, Into the Storm, Africa: Ceremony, Song & Ritual, and Song of Sailor and Sea. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_W._Smith

2009 BOA Grand National Prelim Schedule
mbui replied to BandFan4's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
That's how it's scheduled. The Grand Nationals Prelims schedule is also based on geographical location. If there's mulitiple Texas bands attending, one or two either perform in the last block of Thursday Prelims and the rest in the first block on Friday Prelims. That's why you see mostly southern bands in the first and second block on Friday. -
They're not attending Grand Nationals this year.

Not only that.... Texas swept all three captions! Outstanding Music Performance: Westfield Outstanding Visual Performance: L.D. Bell Outstanding General Effect: Ronald Reagan 1. Westfield 2. Ronald Reagan 3. L.D. Bell

Catharine Sinon-Bushman was the Music Performance Individual judge for Finals, not Prelims. She was the former assistant director at Lassiter HS in the 1990s-early 2000s. and like stated earlier finishing up at UT to get her doctoral in Wind Conducting. http://www.music.utexas.edu/LonghornBand/F...ails.aspx?ID=19 You don't have to be young to be in college! -

Those are the Texas bands attending. Richland was previously signed up but instead has plans for the Rose Bowl, I believe.
