Bold Prediction
AverageMarcher replied to TxRaider13's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Spring High School making 5A UIL finals. If i recall correctly, they have not made it past prelims at the 5A UIL State Marching Competition since 2000. Also, to go out on a further limb, I predict them placing in possibly the top 5 in finals. I make this prediction based on their recent jump from 22nd place at BOA San Antonio during prelims in 2007 to their 7th place finals finish at BOA San Antonio in 2009. 2007: http://www.musicforall.org/images/stories/...ional/txsaP.pdf 2009: http://www.musicforall.org/images/stories/...TXSA.Finals.pdf -

You know us. -
Okay, so im quite sure this is a rumor, but ive heard of this haunted house possibly located in the downtown houston area that is some sort of multi story building that offers you you're money back and possibly additional money as a prize of you make it to the top and back down. catch is that there are trap doors/holes in the ground and you have to sign a release form saying they can touch you. ive looked around on the internet and im pretty sure this is all an urban legend. i think the closest thing you can get to this is the thirteen/13 stories haunted house in georgia or the 13th floor haunted house in denver. both dont offer any money if you complete the haunted house. anyone else hear of anything like that? or maybe know of a haunted house that will make you pass a bowel movement on yourself?

i wanna see a show where the band turns off all the stadium lights (that illuminate the field), the uniforms/guard outfits have neon/led glowing lights, and they shoot fireworks. ps: and when the drum taps the band off the field, a giant smoke screen appears completely hiding the entire band, and when the smoke fades away, the band has disappeared. pps: and there is no pit, the band has modified carriers that hold up marimbas and vibes that march with the rest of the band.

i dont think they announce anything else beyond the qualifiers and the alternate. unless the recap covers how everything was scored... -

Band Troubles
AverageMarcher replied to CPFrntEns's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
this year, we have big 16 foot props made out of wood and particle board, and the other day, one happened to fall on one of our flute players =[ she ended up with a concussion. besides that, nothing major. -
5A band size
AverageMarcher replied to treyj's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
I personally don't think that smaller bands are at a disadvantage. Sure, we may not be able to take up the entire field, but overall i think the average marcher (no pun intended) of a small band is more skilled than an average marcher of a large band. Not always true, but i am basing my reasoning off the assumption that smaller bands = easier to pinpoint weaklings and clean drill. though, it would be freakin awesome if we had a color guard that could fill the entire field on their own =/ Then again, i wish we had enough people to go "Hey, you're not all that good at marching your drill. Lets go ahead and switch you out with an alternate." -

Everyone knows caps lock is cruise control for awesome. anyways, well... their only in their second year... but its the effort that counts... yeah. that should explain it. anyways, we're not gonna "DOMINATE" area f... we're just going to do (really) well. -
Yeah, the bass clarinet music this year is pretty interesting this year. I especially love the third etude because of all the fingering challenges and all of the articulation that is required in the piece. Right now im currently working it up to speed (around 85 at the moment on a good day) and playing it in big chunks. I really wish that the slow piece for this year could have been in a minor key, because that way i get WAY more into it musically, but oh well. its fine the way it is. There are definitely less runs that reach into the altissimo range of the horn though, but that definitely does not make the piece any easier. And well the fast piece... is just a fast piece. Moderately easy key with lots of jumps, which is cake on my resurfaced C* (mouthpiece) =]

I live in Spring and i wont be evacuating. Hopefully, by the time Ike gets to Spring, it'll only be a cat 2. -
Anyone here use e-zo? its a denture product thats great for saving the inside of your lip. basically, its wax with some sort of threadlike mesh inside it. most woodwind players use it. i've recently discovered that its been discontinued =[ (or at least i think so, haven't seen it on shelves) anyone know of a replacement thats just as good? id rather not build up a callous on the inside of my lip.
