  1. I found the link with all these rules explained. https://www.uiltexas.org/files/music/Summer_Marching_Band_Rules_and_Interpretations.pdf
  2. I was not aware of the 10 hour visual rule. Is there a link to the explanation or would you be open to explaining a bit more on the detail of the rule.
  3. I’m curious how grand nats cost are funded for bands. I am sure there are multiple ways, just curious if anyone here would be open to sharing how your band handles this added expense? Are they part of the yearly fees, and they are just more on a grand mats year? Are they paid for by fund raising through the band or the boosters? Are they an addition fee not covered by normal band fees or fund raising?
  4. I’m curious if someone could explain how the judging works for state? There are 12 judges, do they have panels like BOA super regional/grand nats? And what are the judging categories? Judges for 6a- Steve Bentley, Jeff Brooks, Darrin Davis, Glenn Fugett, Mark Hoskins, Jay Kennedy, Kyle Miller, Carl Nelson, Chris Romanowski, Mike Stone, Jim Sturgeon, Steve Wessels
  5. I’m curious to know when the schedule will be released. Seeing as this is next Monday/Tuesday it doesn’t leave much time to plan logistics. Has state always been one week after area?
  6. Does anyone have a link to the prelems schedule?
  7. Do we know how many have qualified for Area D so far? Last year I think it was 29 total, and since they take 1 to state for each 5 that qualify for area, five went to state last year. There is always the chance 30 could qualify allowing for 6 to go to state.
  8. Looks like 8 advance from region 12. 9. Have any of the region contests for Area D 6A happened yet?
  10. I’m curious if anyone is watching this contest today and how it’s going?
  11. When does the finals recap typically get posted?
  12. Did anyone see Cedar Ridge, VistaRidge, Westwood, Round Rock perform last night?
  13. Since it’s not a state year this makes sense.
  14. I see Rouse, Cedar Park and Leander are attending this event. It doesn’t appear any of them attended Area this past Saturday. It seems strange none of them attended, did their district not allow them to participate since they participated last year?
  15. Can you remind me how the panels work? Is it top 5 bands from each panel advance and then the next 4 based on score across both panels?
  16. If a kid is failing at a grading checkpoint it makes them ineligible for any school sanctioned extra curricular activities regardless of it being UIL or not. Every band has to match holes at some point, due to any number of reasons, grade point check, sickness, etc. The judges do not count off for holes due to absent band members.
  17. I noticed Round Rock is sending their JV to this contest. Do any other bands send their JV to competitions?
  18. I know there show could use some cleaning, but I thought they had a pretty good run yesterday and I thought they sounded really good. I wonder how much impact having an early time in the first block plays into a bands score. Marcus was in the same block and made finals so maybe not so much, or maybe following Marcus impacted them? Or maybe they placed exactly where they should have?
  19. This is something I never considered. Since the equipment will be in tractor trailers it will be subject to federal HOS rules. If the school only has one driver per tractor trailer they could be cutting it close. HOS says you can only be on duty for 14 hours in one day and only drive 11 of those 14 hours before you must go off duty and rest for 10 hours. If the driver burns through their 14 hour on-duty clock on Tuesday at State they will have to rest 10 hours before heading to Indy instead of going directly from state to Indy. In this scenario if f everything goes perfectly the driver will get to Indy around 12:00 PM on Thursday.
