  1. “the kids seem to really enjoy it and get to be Egyptian” is crazy 😂 That only underscores my point. Let’s just have shows where kids can have fun being Indian or Chinese or Nigerian! The whole premise is just not cool, especially when certain groups are targets of discrimination and can’t just choose not to be part of that group if they want. It’s insensitive and I can bet on the fact that Kaufman has no Middle Eastern students to even say it’s celebrating. And even if it was true, playing “walk like an Egyptian” is not a celebration of Egyptian culture. This isn’t even me being sensitive, I’m just perplexed at the lack of acknowledgement about how the show is not respectful or the fact that there are SOOO many more options.
  2. I honestly think it’s going to be really tight. I think North and Kaufman (even though I’m a Kaufman hater bc of the subject matter of their show) will make it. That third spot is a toss up; It can be WM, LC, Poteet or HP. I feel insane to not put Poteet as a shoe in but they are just nowhere near clean and their competition results reflect that (especially given the rumor that WM ranked higher at MMF). Something no one has brought up is the fact that all these schools have a fall break this week—I wonder if that will stall progress and meaningfully effect outcomes at Area. An early takeaway from this season is that this Area actually is competitive. Additionally, it’s notable how West Mesquite has improved so much that they are (allegedly) beating Poteet, and winning competitions and percussion contests, and in consideration by people in this forum for state. Forney’s departure in fact did not leave a void for interest in this Area.
  3. We should probably expect only 3 spots for state and would be lucky to get 4. 5 is just out of the realm of possibility because a lot of bands in this area from DISD historically get 2s (even 3s) at region.
  4. Yeah. I think there’s an argument that there’s a battle for both the 3rd and 4th spots between 5 bands. I appreciate the unexpected competitiveness of this area this year.
  5. Red oak is not doing as well as other years either https://youtu.be/yGlOhWALD2A?si=3PvHa3vNahyRQwP2
  6. Based off of today’s comps and the season thus far : 1. North Mesquite 2. Kaufman 3. West Mesquite 4. Poteet / HP Mt Pleasant Lakeview Centennial Terrell Red Oak Texas
  7. LCHS is exhibition. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it means that they didn’t make the top 10.
  8. West Mesquite just won best 5A band at Royse City, beating out LCHS. Área C is going to be realllyyyyyyyy interesting!
  9. I agree with all of this and actually think West, LCHS and Mt Pleasant are in the running for 4th. Hopefully this Area sends 4 to state but it’s looking like it’ll be 3 unfortunately.
  10. And North beat Poteet last year at Area, LCHC got like 12 last week, Red oak is not doing as well as other years, Highland Park got 12th at MMI, Mt Pleasant is missing….. so on. that whole ranking is WRONG!!! (Respectfully)
  11. And North Mesquite earned 4th place at Don Hanna while Lakeview Centennial got 10th; Also, highland park did not make finals at McKinney. as a side note: happy for Kaufman but absolutely despise their show lol. Thought we were past orientalist shows and, in general, shows about specific cultures. Especially when there’s so many stereotypical tropes being duplicated in the music choices, body movements, etc.
  12. So if I’m not mistaken, Kaufman beat Poteet at Midlothian and got first place and West Mesquite was the grand champion of Aubrey…. This is shaping up to be an INTERESTING area comp.
