when we went to state marching last year (for 4a) our band boosters provided us with goodie bags and pretty much everyone got the same stuff chips, caprisun, stuff like that. buuut we had something special in this bag. bags of planters peanuts. im not a fan of peanuts and apparently noone else in the band was either i threw mine at a friend whose attention i was trying to get and soon after pretty much the entire bus was throwing their bags of nuts at one another we even had the band director throwing them we split the bus from the front half against the back half. (we strictly limited the stuff we threw to the nuts bcuz anything else woulda been waste lol) than someone kinda got carried and accidentally hit the driver...... hence the end of the "nut wars" Hahaha (Drumline buses are by far the most fun)

As bad as i wanted state.... ( and i wanted it beyond belief.... to go from being the smallest 4A at state to being the smallest 5A would hav been nothing short of absolutely incredible..) (this is the first time dickinson has not gone to state since iono the begining of time mayb?... haha) but losing to bands Such as - Brazoswood - The Woodlands - West Field - and Spring (which are the bands that are going to state btw) and being right behind north shore (whose the alternate) making us (dickinson) 6th is at the very least, a respectable loss ironically enough the 4 state contenders are very well known BOA bands as well (im not sure of north shore so i cant comment on them) those top 4 bands were bands were easily predicted to b our most difficult competition and to b placed to so close to them in competition is pretty B.A i gotta say, bcuz thos are bands weve (as a band) hav looked up to since b4 i can remember even my sister who was in the Dickinson band in the mid 90's remembers admiring those programs as well no, we did not hav the great honor of returning to state but by all means im certain that everyone in our band program was proud of our performance last evening. which needless to say, in the end, if we honestly do our best, that's all well hav power over my Band director made a very good point after we reviewed our preliminary results "some ppl like pizza, some ppl like ham, but i personally like steak" its just how the cookie crumbles Congrats to all the bands that evening who did their best whether the qualified for finals, qualified for state, or just enjoyed their time creating unforgettable memories -

Dickinson is goin we Were gonna go to the Alief Contest but they put the kibosh on it bcuz of the Damage from IKE (i think... im not sure) this will b out first time marching aledo i believe Last year at Alief: We got top Drumline Top 4A band and top drum majors (they didnt award this but we also had the highest score in the contest otherwise we wouldve been best in contest also) -
ive only dropped 1 stick ever and this was the practice right b4 state (4A) My percussion director told me if i did that at state id hav a the bus ride back home in my tenor case but at Dickinson (on drumline) we get the stick and write DROPPED, the date, and the competition it was dropped at on the stick

Area F 4A

yeah, friendswood is doing BOA and UIL. they came out 2nd at the LoneStar Contest in Conroe on the 13th for the 4A. So they are definite competition for Dickinson. Dickinson is doing great this year. They won best drumline and best band overall at the Katy Marching Festival and the Alief Marching Contest. At Alief, the drumline gog 494 points out of 500. Freaking badass. Just wanna get the word out that Dickinson is gonna let it rip this year at state, and anyone who has to say that we wont make it past Area is seriously senile. Amigo Wood is their biggest competition and also their biggest friend. Those two schools are going to take Area and make a splash at State. As for Brazosport and Texas City, I have seen their shows, and its nothing compared to the big boys. Im sure they do their best, but from what i've seen, they arent up to level for Area. Idk about Santa Fe. They try really hard I guess, but I havent seen them at any contests. I'll see them tomorrow night though at UIL Region. So we'll see who has the upper hand. Angleton isnt the most amazing either. It's just the same old cookie cutter routine, one after the other for a lot of those bands. Hope thats enough insight for ya. -

4A UIL state

Ok Just so dickinson can let out its terrible secret our directors were testing a strategy out (musically) due to the dome, in that we backed down our volume obviously it backfired with extremely unpleasant results but that did not come close to stifling our seasoned or incoming players Dickinson IS ready for state Dickinson IS worthy of making finals Dickinson WILL uphold our tradition (sorry for the cocky attitude but it just had to be said) Fun Filled Fact: from 89-91 (3 yrs) Dicksinson won state we were a huge factor in the decision to make state only every other year To make simple Dickinson Has always and Will always make their name known -
Langham Creek....?
BDAZdrummer replied to awheaven's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
so just an interesting fact my new percussion directer use to teach a little at langham and he said that the whole band will stand around the field and watch their section leaders play the show and they dunt start learning the show untill it is played flawlessly by their section leaders -
My Percussion Director suggests SHSU which is a camp stricktly for marching he said he prefers for me to go there bcuz he knoes wat i need and how i work and stuff ( i kinda take lessons from him all year long) but it seems like SFA covers a heck of a lot more stuff (concert percussion, drumsets, ethnic hand drumming and it also offers a marching percussion option) i also read that the "percussion festival" at Berklee is bad **** if u wanna specialize in 1 aspect of percussion (it allows for you so specialze in either drum set. marima. hand percussion.vibes. or total percussion) those are the 3 major camps ive been hearing about Any1 kno any other good ones?
-
Becuase ur too far from the sun why are grls confusing even when theyre being blunt?
-
Ok so my Percussion Director wants me to get a tenor solo for solo/ensemble and hes not sure wat solo i should get and neither am i so i was jus wondering if yall knew ne kool ones..
-
who makes wannamakers? bcuz the pair i hav are from vic firth and are kinda heavy but still awsome
-
ok? well i ask bcuz they plan to take out my 28inch bass out of the line bcuz of the dome for state and they wanna put in a 14 inch bass meaning our smallest will b a 14inch but i disagree with my directors doing that bcuz the 28inch gives our drumline more personality with lower and darker tones

'01 cavies best show ever that snare breaks freaking crazy most the snareline next year know it so we might get to fit it in the show next year for state (4A)
