  1. Argyle needs to go to GN we need more Texas bands representing class AA and A
  2. From what I heard from multiple friends that where there her finale few years she was a control freak. She even tried taking control over the music for their 2018 show that she was no longer going to be the director for and caused the new one to buy music from a company used many times from a soundtrack company that held their show back. Very little editing was able to be done with it due to copyright reasons and the music was for a big band so a band with 60 wind players marching a show with lots of power cords sounds weird. They still beat us in one competition because they are Argyle and I went to Guyer at the time so.¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  3. Their size is gonna hold them back for a bit. Their old head director kamikazed the program to the ground and lost a lot of members the new one is still picking up the pieces and is doing a great job!!
  4. Scores were super close between TC, MKN and Argyle from what I heard. One judge can dictate who advances.
  5. Area B might take 5 but it depends how many schools Qualify for Area.
  6. I don't think 4a is nessesary getting "better" like in terms of scoring. I just think it's hard to just flat out say who the top 3 bands are now in the beginning of October. If anything the competition out there right now is not as good. In the past there were just 3 power house programs in the past like Argyle, Melissa, and Canton/ North Lamar that always dominated their areas. Most programs that move up that were a top program in 4a often take years to see any success in 5a. Princeton is a good example. They placed 2nd or 3rd at state in 4a almost every year for awhile. They moved to 5a in 2018 and just now are starting to be concerned as favorited to be finalists at area. Argyle and Melissa might change the way people view smaller school competitions though if they can be competitive at the state level for 5a. In my opinion Argyle has the best chance for that happening this year if they do make state and place well.
  7. I honestly can see Argyle placing top 3 in area B. Probably the cleanest they have been ever this part of the season. Melissa should of been top 3 at least.
  8. Their drill and visuals they showed looked super clean for this part of the season and they looked to be ahead of some area B groups already but I think their size is going to hold them back. They just sound not that strong even towards the end of the season. You can get away with a smaller group in 4a but definitely not in 5a. If they do make state they probably will finish in the middle of the pack at best in prelims.
  9. There were a lot of intonation problems with the brass. I remember them being technique and run heavy in 2016-2019 with their shows trying to stand out from Argyle and the other groups trying to follow the new power chord trends. It worked for them I'm not sure why they are changing it up. It was nice seeing those kinds of shows.
  10. Congrats to Celina on getting first. Really unexpected! I thought it would just be Canton, North Lamar and maybe Anna or China Spring being the power houses medaling for a little bit with Argyle and Melissa in 5a now. Not sure what's up with North Lamar but it looked like they tried something new for their show this year (Not woodwind very technique heavy) and it was a mess musically but I'm sure they will be ready to make a run for it again in 2024.
  11. I know I saw them at their first contest and they struggled putting a decent sound on the field that was a decent volume. If they just get some more members and are able to keep getting better with show design they will be in finals for both UIL 5a and BOA SA one day soon.
  12. HOLY CRAP ARGYLE WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?!
  13. I heard from some people who judged in contests before say they really just pick the bands they know will make finals and just place them randomly because prelims doesn't really matter and there's a lot of bands and scoring everyone in a detailed way would be hard and take forever and there are some groups that are just not nearly as good as the ones making finals. For those schools that make it to a contest like area, the feedback to them are what's most important to them, not knowing that they scored 3rd to last place or something like that.
  14. The only thing that will probably hold Argyle back is their size. They have the design and talent to be compared to the top dogs in 5a and most 6a schools but they need more members to compete with them in UIL and BOA.
