    Typically most schools learn their music near the end of the year or going into the summer to begin memorizing for camp, and others may learn music even earlier so they can do a preview performance leading into the summer

    Even though I was hoping Katy might be able to pull through, 6th place for them is still really nice seeing how they’ve improved since last years area! The show concept was very cool and that ending was so dramatic and dark! After their first time in Conroe finals I kind of thought Jordan might place higher? You can’t really gauge that stuff cause different schools were at each competition I guess, but I felt like they would’ve been higher up before the results came out. Good on them though for making area finals their first year as a 6A! That’s still quite an achievement and I feel like with time they could very well make it to state, plenty of potential! And how about Cy-Fair! Talk about a comeback year. They sounded fantastic, really enjoying the concept with the costumes, after last year I was a little hesitant to put them in first for predictions but they clearly deserved it, good on them for being Area Champs and getting to go to state for the first time since 2018!

    I could see woodlands mayyyyyyybe being overtaken by Klein oak, but I’m not so sure about Pearland beating woodlands, what’s your reasoning behind that prediction, if I might ask?

    I think this is a performance from last week, really interested in this show so far, although I felt like their brass could’ve given a little more, I’m loving the horn feature at the beginning!

    It's not a performance that "deserves" an ovation, it's for the dedication and hard work students, teachers, parents, etc do to create the show on the field, for the program in general. Personally I find it a bit odd to think that different bands deserve a different amount of clapping based on how they do at a comp. While you can either stand or not, I don't you need to base whether you do off of "standards", that's what the awards are for

    Trying to find a recording of cy fair and bridgeland's football game last week, but could only find one of fair (Which is not filmed very well LOL) If anyone has any vids of bridgeland they'd be willing to share/dm that would awesome! Been trying to find one for a little while

    If I remember correctly it's typically 4-5 depending on how region goes, last year they only took four but really either one is on the table for this year in my opinion

    Same here, Cy Woods seems to have a lot of potential, especially after how well their last season went, their musicianship is fantastic and I think they could really start to step things up as time goes on

    A part of me has always wondered why an event with such a high attendance rate wouldn't have a semi-finals, although I'm sure if they did it would lose the distinction it has as a super regional, and seem more like a texan edition of grand nationals

    Was at the Houston event tonight, and even though bd won, crown stole the show for me personally. They sounded and looked absolutely fantastic

    I'm so glad I'm not the only one who isn't a very big fan of some modern DCI drill writing, scatters are so frequent nowadays that sometimes it feels like the whole visual package relies more on the props, flags, and uniforms for powerful effect and showcasing of the theme, rather than effective and stylistic drill

    It's a bit early to be discussing it but area I 6a had some really interesting results last year, a lot bands in the higher ranks that weren't before, although some of the judging was criticized by many, I think it will still be very interesting to see what happens this year. Will Tompkins rise back up again? Will Bridgeland keep its 1st place spot or will Seven Lakes come out on top? Will Cy-Fair find its way back to marching competition after two years? Could we possibly see Cinco Ranch become a state qualifier? After a year of band programs healing from the effects of covid, I'm very curious to see where things end up

    I've never watched one of these before, so forgive me if this is an easily googled question, but what exactly does a proposal being studied/monitored entail?

    I think it would be a nice change, especially for bands who don't get the chance to compete very much outside of UIL, although there is always that extra stress that comes with state years, I believe that as time passes (if it is passed, it is) that would become less of an issue
