  1. Dang it you beat me to it...
  2. It should be 10. Every area with 21+ bands in it has a 10 band finals. I think Xenon was just leaving the final two spots open for a couple of the bands he has in italics. edit: That or he forgot to make Allen and Summit bold...
  3. This rule is kind of interesting...I found it on the UIL website. Has anyone heard of this happening? "In addition any band that receives a ranking of three or higher from two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to state." This is in addition to the 5 bands who advance in an area of 25 bands, for example. So even though there are 25 bands, 6 or even 7 still have the possibility of advancing. I can see this happening in Area B since there is so much competition and the judges are more likely to be more sporadic in their scoring.
  4. Pflugerville is in Region 18. They moved on, but they're not in 26. The other 7 bands are correct though.
  5. It really doesn't surprise me. Everyone deserved it. I didn't get to see Stony Point, but I know they've had a bit of a turn around in the past couple of years, so I'll go ahead and say they deserved it too. From the bands I saw... McNeil - Very funny show...the rabbit got a little distracting after awhile, but I still liked the whole William Tell thing. This was one of those shows where the guard tells the whole story, and they do a great job of doing so. Georgetown - I'm not a huge fan of Key Poulan music, but this show is very well done. It made me think twice about Key Poulan...although I still don't like some of his other music. Another thing...that drumline is INCREDIBLE! Leander - Great balance throughout the whole ensemble. I wasn't sure how much I was going to like this show from the front after seeing it from the back so many times, but thank you for proving my thoughts wrong! Great job! Round Rock - Another very impressive drumline...but that's not anything new. I really enjoyed this show. According to some people I've talked to that saw this show at the CP Festival, this performance was so much better than that one. Congrats! Cedar Park - What a sound! And I have to say thank you for speeding up the beginning since the last time I saw you guys. To be honest, it really sounded like a dirge last time, but I feel like it sounds like it should now. The biggest areas for improvement in this band are their marching (keeping forms is the biggie) and their guard work. (I just heard this morning that the guard changed a lot of their work this week, so it's definitely understandable for now.) Westwood - 11 All-State members this past year...the most I've ever heard of, and it is very obvious that there are some very good players in this band. I've always been impressed with the low brass (they've been great ever since they went to Canyon Vista and Grisham Middle Schools). One thing that drove me nuts though was the ending...the show just ends. You feel like there should be a big monstrous chord at the end, but it's not even there, and it's a very easy place to add one. I would love to hear one added in for area, but that's just me.

  7. During my sophomore year, we went to Winter Park, Colorado and had a blast. However, on the way back to the airport on the charter we experienced the craziest snowstorm any of us had ever seen (and I'm not a true-blooded Texan...I have seen a ton of snow before). The first half of the trip back from Winter Park went very smoothly, but in what seemed like an instant the bus was crawling at 5-10 mph along with every other car on the road. When we finally got to the Denver airport, they had actually shut it down and we were stuck there for the day. We almost had to stay the night in the airport, but they got us out on two of the first (and last) flights of the night. I had never seen anything like it though...on the bus or at the airport. When we got back home, we learned that it was in fact one of the worst snowstorms Denver had ever seen. It was so much fun though! Connally was at Winter Park during the same time we were, but they had taken charters all the way there and had escaped the storm before it hit.
  8. If I had to pick 5 out of those, I'd go with Bell, Richland, Marcus, Haltom, and Hebron. But the rest of those bands provide for another heck of an area.
  9. I can definitely see Ben doing that...lol. CP and their crazy tubas...
  10. We have Pirate Song problems with our tuba section...not the trombones, lol.
  11. If I do, it will be the first review I've ever done, so you might have to bear with me a little
  12. I cannot wait to see this contest! It's pretty much in my school's backyard. (You can see it if you look off of the top of the Home side of RRISD Stadium.) I guess it's kinda nice when you're 4A and it's not a state year...you can watch the whole Area contest from the front without having to worry about performing. I'd say that 6 will make state from this area. Even with 6, there will definitely still be a few that completely deserve to make it who won't. If anyone else is planning on coming out to RRISD Stadium to watch, let me know. I will more than likely be there all day. This contest is pretty much going to be like a mini-State Marching/BOA Contest. It's gonna be great!
  13. Here's the video of that show...(pulled it off of Skramps New Place) Lassiter 2002
  14. I will be the first to say that Dripping Springs marches and plays the heck out of their music. It's just hard for me to determine whether I agree with their placement because the level of difficulty in their show is not at all as high as the level of difficulty in ours or Hendrickson's. They definitely deserve to be rewarded for the cleanliness of their show, but I don't think it should have been through the way that it was. I'm fairly new to the BOA world because this is the first year that we are going to be competing in a BOA contest, but do they have a way of factoring in the difficulty of the show to your score (kind of like a "strength of schedule" in college football's BCS rankings)? Was the Design/GE category supposed to account for that at Westlake, or was there not much of a way for it to be included?
  15. OK...what's with everyone's marching and music score being exactly the same in prelims?
  16. Does anyone happen to have the breakdown of scores for the 4A's(marching/music/percussion/design and effect)? By looking at these scores for the 5A's, it looks like we got 12th overall (81.6), but I would love to see the scores for the different captions if anyone happens to have them. To anyone at Hendrickson...you guys are going to bounce back. I've been so impressed with the show design the past couple of years, and I really think y'all are going to be fine in the coming weeks. We were also in the same situation as you guys dance-wise (cough). Leander...after that disappointing 6th place finish at the CP Festival last week, I knew you guys would really turn it on this week. Great job, and good luck for the rest of the season! We'll always be out there to support y'all. Great job to everyone at the contest! Up next is UIL for most everyone, so good luck next week. I'll be out there watching Region 26's 5A performances after we perform (since we're 4A and the stadium is right down the street from our school). It'll be my first opportunity to see shows from the front this year, so I'm really looking forward to it!
  17. Cedar Park has posted the complete results on their website (with Music, Visual, GE, Percussion, Color Guard scores and everything). On the finals page, the GE rank starts at 12 for some reason and goes through 22 while everything else is normal and starts at 1 and goes to 11. Complete Prelims Results Complete Finals Results
  18. According to the Akins' band website, they are going to the USSBA contest at Hays next weekend and BOA San Antonio on November 3-4 (not including the UIL contests). By looking at the schedule of bands competing in the USSBA contest, they shouldn't have any problem outscoring every one of them. I'm very interested to see how they will do in San Antonio. It seems as if not even Akins knew how good they were going to be this year. I didn't see the show, but I've heard that it was absolutely awesome and that it's a great show for BOA. Does anyone think that Akins might have a legitimate shot at finals there? As for our band, I'm really looking forward to next week at Westlake! It's so much more fun when we're actually competative with some really great bands. I guess that's part of what finally having a four year school can do for you. Yep, we've had problems trying to fix that up lately. We'll eventually get it, but you're right, it was probably the weakest part of our show. We also need some work on our visual package. Our music scores haven't ever really been too much of a problem for us in the past, but our visual scores have usually been a bit lower than our actual placement. Congratulations to everyone at the Cedar Park festival, and good luck to everyone going to Westlake next week or wherever else anyone might be competing!
  19. Does anyone know the lineup for this year's contest? I would assume that it's close to the same as last year. This is our second time competing in this contest, and we missed finals by ONE placement last year and we're hoping to better our outcome this time around. This is the contest in the Austin area on October 14th, so it should be some good stuff! I'm really looking forward to it!
  20. I know that prelims is 12 bands and finals is 12 bands, so more than likely they're mixing it. Here is the prelims schedule. There are seven 5As, four 4As, and one 2A, so I'd also assume that they're doing a best in class as well. Is there anyone from Cedar Park High School that can confirm that?
  21. Does anybody have complete results on this?
  22. Yup, take a look here. Should be interesting.
