Yes! The difference between sitting on the side and sitting in the middle is so apparent. Because this activity focuses so much on sound, the physics of it all can really make a difference. Also does anyone that has watched shows upstairs in the Alamodome feel like the bands don’t sound as loud/intense as watching them outdoors?

My band OCD won’t allow me to sit anywhere except high up and directly on the 50 yard line😭🤣

LD Bell Prelims

I was thinking the same thing. The “the” (lol) article makes it sound…awkward imo. And I’d also rather them say the full name of UIL. Sounds more official lol

Omg I just realized they did a “bassoon box” thing again! Similar to 2014. And yes I was giddy about both because I played bassoon in high school 👀🤣

I’ve noticed that UIL state announcements have changed over the years. Past years it was “the next band in conference 6A is the abc band from xyz, TX. Directors for the band are lmnop. Drum Majors for the band are qrs. Etc etc” Last year it was similar only they didn’t announce the directors and they said the drum majors names after the show musical selections. this year it’s similar to BOA. I’ll admit it’s weird hearing “the UIL is proud to present”🤣

I think the audio/visual is good it’s just that they don’t always focus the camera in the right spot😭 like when a section/soloist is featured the camera will be somewhere completely different. I’m also against the lack of a high-cam option.

Cedar Ridge Prelims Performance

Considering what I’m hearing about the quality of streaming I’m almost tempted to drive my self back down there and record everything myself

I was afraid that a new livestream service would have some issues. I miss the free live streaming of the awards ceremony too

The intensity of their sound and the exposure of their staging really made the difference for them being in top half (ahem🙈) the bands above them in my opinion were just better at this particular skill set, plus More demanding, complex drill and music.

I recorded Marcus’s performance with my phone. It’s scheduled to be uploaded on YouTube after state finals.

Won’t be watching the shows live so here are My pre-contest predictions. I will make finals placement predictions after finalists are announced as well. Locks for finals placements predictions when they get to finals: Hebron Vandegrfit The Woodlands Flower Mound Marcus Vista Ridge Ronald Reagan CTJ Coppell Cedar Ridge Waxahachie Keller Finalist Bubble( in no particular order): Pearland Timber Creek LD Bell Round Rock Cy-Fair Wylie Westlake I learned at BOA I have to evaluate shows in their entirety as opposed to just one aspect of it. Same thing here for UIL. Some of the shows I placed based on one specific quality, and that matched their ranking in a particular caption or sub-caption(either in prelims and/or finals), but not for overall placement because I didn’t consider the other qualities it had(*cough* vista ridge and Marcus *cough*🙈) Or I’ll place bands inaccurately in prelims but accurately if it were finals, or vice versa. I haven’t mastered this yet 🙈

It seems that during my predictions I either evaluated them accurately based on prelims criteria, (Keller in 10th, Pearland in 14th, etc.) or Sometimes I take one aspect of the performance and assume that one aspect is representative of the whole when it’s just one part to take into consideration. Like with Marcus I (thought about) placing them in 8th(I put them in 7th), which is equal to their ranking in individual visual performance. And I remember my justification for the high placement was because I was impressed by the visual complexity each individual was responsible for. However, in BOA one must evaluate the entirety of the performance based on multiple characteristics as opposed to one category.

My finals predictions for Keller, coppell, Pearland, and Ronald Reagan were inaccurate for finals but accurate for prelims. This keeps happening! 🤦🏾‍♂️ And comparing my finals predictions with prelims placements I was one off for flower mound and vista ridge (should’ve stuck with my first thought!) Hebron And CTJ were right on the money in both rounds. And the others were either a little further off or way off in either round.

There are 4 bands missing from hornrank’s list

Just checked the prelims scores on hornrank. Apparently my prediction of vista ridge in 7th or 8th was more accurate in prelims than in finals. They were the former. Also Hebron got 1st from every judge except music ensemble in prelims! 🤯

No problem since I love vista ridge anyway. I’ll do you one better and send you my dad’s barbecue, off-the-bone chicken. Best bbq chicken ever.

Should’ve just kept them in the top like I originally had them🙈
