  3. Loved the callback to Vandegrift’s 2019 show. Little things I enjoyed were how nicely the drumline matched the rhythm of the low brass in the opener and how delicately the low brass could play that little figure in the softer dynamics. I could tell it was challenging for them to come in together after long silences, like right at the opening hit. It’s challenging to pull stuff off like that but overall it was a really great performance. not sure what I could say specifically about the trumpets, I really only paid attention to the ensemble as a whole and remembered my favorite movements lol

  5. Ok Keller we get it, you’re amazing at everything! Guard, woodwinds, percussion, brass, visual execution, everything elite! My god that feature in the opener where the woodwinds are playing that 8th-note ostinato juxtaposed by the brass melodic triplet line, the timing was soooo good! The brass tunes amazingly well! The woodwinds are sooo with with their technique! World class
  6. @averagemello @bleach @Bushpresident Alright you all asked for it and imma give it ya! Yes, the mellos were stupendous! The quality of tone they maintained even the upper tessitura was very impressive! They colored the dark low brass timbre in the opener so nicely. Fantastic integrity in their sound! Clean pentatonic runs! Amazing!! Omg that performance was so clean all around! Nothing sounded shaky to me!
  7. Their visual technique was sooo clean, I think the white uniforms actually help accentuate a clean look to them which can be difficult to achieve when performers are wearing bright colors
  8. They projected very well to my ears. It was a very clean sound. Very clean visually as well, I especially liked how well the woodwinds maintained integrity of that snowflake formation
  9. KC’s guard is my favorite so far! They can toss so high and still maintain uniformity in height and in their catches. Very fast movements that visually embellish the fast, angular woodwind runs. And my god, the rifle soloist nailed every one of her super difficult/high tosses! oh i love their brass sound so much! They just blow you away with their tone quality and intensity. There’s an edge to their timbre that’s really cool to hear. Their multiple tonguing is so clear at such a fast tempo! I do think the mello tone got a little bit spread in the opener but they impressed me nonetheless. Amazing job!
  10. JJ Pearce’s guard has great flag technique, very easy movement and great timing and uniformity all around. Visually Pearce was really strong imo. Every member seemed locked into what they’re doing and contributed to a strong ensemble performance that clarinet solo was electric! Both in energy and instrumentation lol
  11. I figured cuz you’re always looking at your phone and you gave a sideways nod/shake of the head at James Martin’s release in the ballad lol
  12. Ok if anyone sees me I’m a black dude with glasses and twists and a UT Dallas shirt on lol.
  13. @Liam Allen are you wearing a black cap, glasses and a dingy green shirt by chance?
  14. I learned what a whole tone scale is today!
  15. Lovely job by Plano Sr.’s guard in the ballad with the swing flags, very uniform in their movement and great energy overall. Plano Sr.’s woodwinds stole the show for me! Full confidence from them every time they’re featured. Great clarity and horizontal alignment in all of their runs
  16. The Sabre line in the ballad had great consistency with their tosses and catches imo, very nice to see proficiency with different equipment. omg now I know why I liked the woodwind feature so much cuz it’s triumph of time! hard piece to play well.
  17. I am NOT educated on guard very well at all lol but I’ll see what I can do

  19. I loved the scene with the piranha chasing the clarinets! The band did so well with that curving lining penetrating the big brass block. And they sounded great!
  20. Thank you, it’s been a pleasure. yes omg what the heck is with this heat? Literally when I came to this contest back in 2017 I had to wear my letterman and a beanie cuz it was so cold
  21. If theres anything specific you’d like me to comment on while watching your band perform in finals let me know and I’ll make a note to respond to you.
  22. Everyone’s minds were blown by how LOUD the brass was, but don’t let the brass’s big-as-heck sound and mastery over clean, perfectly-timed articulation distract you from the rhythmic integrity demonstrated by the woodwinds, the sonority of the clarinets in the ballad (my god can they project in the low-register), that BEAUTIFUL brass ensemble in the ballad (someone yelled “beautiful!” In the audience lol), and visually, ugh(!), they’re so clean!!! Their forms have so much clarity no matter what they’re marching! Amazing performance!
  23. The trumpets stole the show for me! Like wow nothing was too hard for them, the double-tonguing throughout the performance, the opening feature, and they did it all with such a resonant sound, it was impressive! a super solid performance by the ensemble
  24. I’m a sucker for exposed woodwind runs, especially when they’re very angular (I.e. using scales like the chromatic instead of the major/natural minor). They executed them so tightly and with such intensity that it made the performance very intriguing
