I used to live in Mansfield and would've gone to Lake Ridge if I stayed there and I can tell you that there are for sure a lot of people crowding into those schools. My friend who goes to Lake Ridge said that the freshman class last year was outragously big like 1000 students or something like that and I imagine that it is similar for the other schools in that area. What they probably should do is send some of the people from Lake Ridge and Mansfield to Timberview and send some of the Legacy and Mansfield people to Timberview. This could help bands like Summit and Timberview get more people in their bands which could lead to better scores. This could ecspecially help Summit with more people considering the fact that they made state in 2021 and getting more people back could them back to that standard. -

I just heard that McKinney North is more than likely going up to 6A -
Here are my takes from the competition: congrats to all of the bands making the championship in probably the toughest area in 5A, I can definitely see all of these bands making state finals. congrats to McKinney North for proving all of the doubters wrong with the scoring concern with them, 1st time that they have made state since 2015, and is good for it to happen since year since they are more than likely to go back to 6A next year. I feel so sad for Argyle, I know that they really wanted to prove that they are competitive in 5A this year but I still think that their show was amazing this year. They should still be happy about the product that they have put out this year and once their size doesn't become an issue, they should be a force to be reckoned with within the next year or 2, they have certainly proved that a successful 4A band can be great in 5A which should boost Anna's and Celina's confidence with them likely going up to 5A next year. Man, Memorial is getting better and better every year and is trending in the right direction. They only opened up 5 years and this band's rise has been amazing to see, honestly, I can see this band going to state within the next couple of years with their area results improving each year with them jumping from 10th to 7th within one year in such a tough area. I am so freakin happy for Frisco Emerson. Considering that it is their 1st year being a varsity program and making finals and getting 8th place in a super competitive area, this band is on the rise. This is a band that is also trending in the right direction with their school getting bigger every year. Honestly, I could see them making state within a couple of years as well just like Memorial. Wow, Walnut Grove, I am so flippin' happy for that program, especially considering all of the circumstances. 1st of y'all, it is literally their 1st year in existence with them being in build mode, and no, not rebuild mode, but literally BUILD mode since their school didn't even exist last year, I swear, the paint is probably still drying at that campus lol. 2nd of all, let's address the elephant in the room. If anyone didn't hear about it, here's what happened. They were heading out to Kenny Deel Stadium for the Area competition on Saturday, but on the way there, one of their buses got hit by a drunk driver which really damaged the bus. Don't worry, everyone was okay, they were just a little shaken up and nothing major and thankfully no one died. They did get another bus and actually had a choice to opt out of the competition, but they decided to compete still which shows how determined these kids are. After all, they made it to finals in an amazing area and got 9th as a brand new program so congrats to them for showing their toughness. I'm very surprised that Liberty and Independence did not make the finals. Liberty had a great result at SOF with them finishing 2nd to Argyle in finals and tieing with them in prelims. Independence was a big surprise this year too considering the fact that they made finals last year and got a good placement. Poor Melissa. Their realignment growing pains are unfortunately starting to show with them not making finals in their own stadium. Either way, still a really good band and I think that they will get on a good level within the next couple of years. Either way, congrats to every band that competed

Dang, that sounds like a disaster. At least the quad player maintained solid drill while trying to put their quads back on lol

Yeah the Leander ISD schools for sure move around a lot during the realignments. From what I've heard, they won't add 7A for the upcoming realignment, but they might add it in the 2026 realignment. -

I agree. I think Vandy's enrollment is getting smaller each year but not to the point where it will change the next realignment. I'm also interested in seeing what the Mansfield schools will do. I used to live in Mansfield and man, that city never stops growing. MISD also rezones a lot so it might be interesting to see how that plays out. -
Quick question, with the solar eclipse supposed to happen during the contests, will the UIL make slight adjustments to the schedule? I know that some competitions are putting in breaks during the time of the eclipse so I was wondering what UIL would do. I think what the stadiums should do is turn on the lights in the time range of the solar eclipse so that way the scores don't get messed up because of that, especially if the UIL times it incorrectly and the eclipse happens during a performance.

With the next realignment coming up, what schools do you think will be affected by this? Here are things that I have heard rumors about so far: Cedar Park and Forney going up to 6A Vandegrift going down to 5A (idk if it will be this realignment or the next one) Wakeland moving up to 6A (although Frisco ISD opens up a new high school every 2 seconds) Those are the things that I have heard about so far.

I do agree with you, Lone Star certainly did better at that competition since they did very well in prelims and finals since they got both 1st in prelims and finals while Argyle kind of struggled a little bit in prelims in Princeton but did a lot better in finals in a very similarly competitively leveled field of bands. The thing that gets me with Lone Star is that they are fairly consistent in the scoring category and I think will make state finals. Argyle can be inconsistent, but when good, they are dangerous (Ex: 8th in Area prelims but then 4th in Area finals). I think if Argyle gets a meh run, then Lone Star will beat them, but if Argyle gets an amazing run in finals, then I could see them at least have a shot at beating Lone Star. But still, they are 2 amazing bands and I do think that both will make state, right now I have Wakeland 1st, Lone Star 2nd, Argyle 3rd, and Lebanon Trail 4th at Area but we'll see what happens, the speculation is part of what makes marching band so exciting.

I think a lot of it has to do with their stride to be competitive in 5A considering the fact that they wanna be really competitive in everything they go to. I think that it is for sure showing in their show design this year with lots of progress being made. I could for sure see them being in the top 3 at Area this year since I do see them jumping a lot of good bands this year, I could even see them pulling off an upset and winning Area this year (although idk if they will beat Wakeland or Lone Star considering how much bigger they are). I think the thing that people think will be a disadvantage for Argyle is their size since they are very small for a 5A band since they just got realigned last year from 4A but I think that they could overcome that with Argyle growing at such a rapid rate. I think this weekend will be very good testing point for Argyle at the McKinney Marching Invitational since there are 2 6A state contenders (Wylie and Wylie East) that they will compete against. It will for sure be a challenge for them to beat them, but I think that it is possible that it can happen and if they do beat them, honestly I could consider them making a very good run at state this year but who knows what will happen, I am very interested in seeing how people predict this contest this weekend once the predictions are up and ready to go.

Me personally, I feel like this will be between Collyvuid...one more time the Colleyville Heritage HS marching band (iykyk), and Lake Ridge HS. Colleyville Heritage always puts on a good show and is a 5A state finalist and Lake Ridge HS is a big 6A band that sounds good and is always finalists in one of the toughest areas in Texas, and I know it doesn't mean much but it is home field advantage for Lake Ridge. I feel like it will come down to who has the best run that determines who takes the crown tomorrow night.
