  1. I think that was 2002. They did 'Metal'. I have to say that is to this day my favorite Carmel show. Although, lol, the guitarist was nerdy looking so the whole rocker look didn't work so well.
  2. Was this finals or prelims?
  3. He makes a good point. It's one of the reasons some bands do easier shows. They are easier to clean and in the end, will be judged better than harder shows that aren't as clean. In the end, demand really isn't worth all that much. Definitely not enough to make a drastic change in scoring or placing.
  4. Lol. Was this sarcasm?
  5. . Remember though there were quite a few bands missing from that competition. I'm not trying to be a downer, but I think if LD Bell, Richland, and Haltom had been there, it may have been different. And from what I have heard, Legacy is losing quite a few good seniors this year. So we will see.
  6. I also thought Cavies '04 was better than Cavies '06. In '04 they had it all: Creativity, GE, Music, etc. It deserved to win.
  7. Agreed. Machine had the Creativity, GE, and Visual.. but it didn't rise to the standard of music that Phantom had. Machine was a great show, but after a few times it got stale. Faust, however. Was so emotional.. so raw and powerful that it kept me enthralled time after time I saw it. Their music kicked rear that year, as well. Machine had too much hype, in my eyes.
  8. I heard that as well. I also heard that Haltom's clarinet soloist was playing his instrument before their time started in warm-up.
  9. Mine were almost dead on. I had: Bell. Marcus. Richland. Hebron. And after finals I had Mansfield beating Haltom for the 5th spot. It was very hard to rank because a lot of the bands seemed to have somewhat off performances, whether it be in one main area or overall.
  10. Let's just hope the judges don't feel the need to put state-bound bands ahead of other bands because it would look bad to have a non-state band beat a state band.
  11. Btw. You guys are going to have a FIERCE winterguard this year. And question. Bell won visual in Finals and Marcus won music, correct? It seemed to me some of the bands had off performances last night.. but that could just be me.
  12. I see what you mean. I still have yet to hear a band perform a vast amount of work from Shostakovich as Phantom Regiment did in '96. If I ever do, I'll probably be bored and say... I have already heard that performed amazingly by PR. However, I think if they play it well and use it to their own theme, it shouldn't be compared as much.
  13. Btw. Excellent solo, dude.
  14. Lol! Wow. I totally had a blonde moment. :] Ignore that.
  15. Lol. Just to remind you guys. If once a musical piece was used in a marching show it was put on a 'no-use' list, then we would have like no music left to put on a marching field. I mean.. bands would have to use music from Hannah Montanna.
  16. I think he means.. The part where at the left side of the screen the band is in a circle and it breaks off into lines moving away from it.. creating almost a sun-looking form. Because there is a very short moment where the music does sound VERY similar to a part in the Remaining. But from what I have seen, LD Bell has a cool way of adding little parts of music to their shows. Like that lick that's in a lot of their shows. (Example: The Climax right before the saxophone soloist starts playing Lux Arumque in 'Transcendants'.)
  17. It's kind of similar to chalk. When I was in high school, we marked all our sets with chalk. So when it all washed away and we ran through it, everyone was lost and forgot where they were going. If you start early without the 'training wheels', it makes you that much better in the long run. You'll learn where to go without the chalk, and will rely on the people around you, the drum major, and the yard lines to get where you are going. I personally find the use of a metronome distasteful. I agree. I think they should be used at practices and when learning sets. I believe that using them at a game creates a crutch for people. Lazynessss. COUNT! It gets the band involved and keeps them focused. I hope that made sense.
  18. Yeah. I really had no idea what I was trying to say the first time. Lol. I went back and read it and I was like... Wtf?!
  19. .. Okay. It is very obvious they care. VERY obvious. I think what I should have said is they are not afraid to take risks and/or go outside the box. Does it make sense now?
  20. I believe it's 'The Aquarium' from Carnival of the Animals.
  21. I think that is one things that helps make Bell so insane. They seem to not care about judges at all. I mean, a lot of bands would be afraid to stand still that much. The thing is, I think Bell takes that and throws it in the judges faces.. because they have the (male organs) to do so and the musical emotion to back it up. If I don't know. That may not have made any sense but it did in my head.. lol.
  22. Whoa. L.D. Bell. Whoa.
