BOA San Antonio 2008
radchad replied to LHS'NET10's topic in Past Contests, Events, and Festivals Archive
I bet on an LD Bell win. I have heard both performances and LD Bell sounds better than Marcus this year. Also, I think it terms of show design I like LD Bell's show better. But, I don't have a BOA judges mind, so I really don't know who will win.. lol. -

I just want more from Hebron. I have seen them twice and they have yet to draw me in. I am sure they will get there. -

Lol, no worries. We all have our favorites. I have a problem with that. Sometimes I hype a little too much.. x_x I am pretty sure a lot of people on this site hate me. I just wasn't that impressed. Musically they were pretty good, but it wasn't anything impressive. I think I was spoiled from the past two years. Their shows were so YEAH GET UP IN YOUR FACE and this one isn't. I just got bored during their show. I also dislike props that draw away from the band. With the eyes on the sidelines around the field, people were more focused on them and it takes away from the band.. it's a little distracting to me. -

I agree with you except in place of Hebron I would have Connally. For such a small band they had a very good sound and I think their concept is just wicked cool. When Cedar Park hit that first big hit... OMG. I went nuts. So loud and powerful. Mansfield. Wow. Don't know what to say. They have improved like crazy every week. Can't wait to see them by the end of the season. Legacy is the same, pretty much. While the show is a little weird for me, I was more impressed by parts of the show rather than it's entirety. Like the muted trumpet feature.. and the Bari/Alto duet. The beginning was pretty radical. This is turning out to be a good year. :] You going to this contest? -

Honestly, I think this one is anyone's game. At the rate some of those bands have been improving from week to week, we can expect a strong showing this weekend. -

Just remember that BOA and UIL are different. Martin didn't make finals at TOC but they made finals at BOA Arlington. So Colleyville is not out of the game. :] -
I just missed them in prelims. I worked until 3 and then had trouble finding parking. Haha. I wonder why that is? Maybe in Prelims the judges said something about it. I managed to get to see Colleyville, though. Their show was VERY intruiging. I think when they get it finished it's going to be a very good show. It was weird not having them in finals.

2008 Duncanville Marching Invitational

I agree, though. The man knows his stuff.. and that is going to take Legacy a long way. I wasn't trying to knock him or anything. It was more of, the best of the best have to have that slight ego. They are the ones that go out for blood, and he is exactly the type of the director that a modern band needs. -
Well in my eyes, competing in your first ever BOA regional and making finals is just as notable.. regardless of how long your school has been around. There are schools that have been around forever(30+ years) but are just recently taking a spin on the BOA Train. It doesn't make it any less impressive, ya know. Let's hope this wind doesn't become a habit for the Arlington regional everyear. 2 years running. Let's hope that streak is broken next year. It's really hard to critique the guard and effect the guard creates with the music and the band when the wind is blowing.

2008 MARCHING SHOWS!!!!

You just put into words exactly what I was thinking. Their drill writer is also their Guard Instructor, Marching Instructor, and band director. Lol. I found it interesting, too. Part of me thinks it is because the Mansfield band is majority freshman. The drill writer probably did the staggered to hide some of that. It is a possibility. This is the best Mansfield has ever sounded, in my opinion. I think their music is stronger than their marching, but the guard is stronger than the music. They did win GE in finals, so we'll see. It will be an interesting year for them. While we're on the sound subject, Coppell had a brilliant musical performance. Definitely kept me interested. -

Yep. Their music PWNS. -
That's a darn good show. Another good one from that year was the Summer Train Blues mix. And a lot of people didn't like it, but I really enjoyed Mood Swings from that year, too.
