Welcome to FANS of America's San Antonio Super Regional! We're super excited to listen to you chat, walk in and out, loudly tell people they're in your seat, all with bands playing and marching in the background! That's right, everyone's here to see and hear you! Now that that's of my chest... Woodlands guard is always so much fun to watch. What a crazy finals.

I think easier is maybe not the right term. I think there are fewer variables outside of your control (wind, lights, how a dropped weapon bounces, etc) with dance vs guard. To add to that my wife (a ballerina into her 20s, high school dance team, dance instructor, and color guard mom/board member) said she absolutely agreed that dance as a whole is not easier. However, she felt the routine Vandy was using could be picked up fairly easily by the Woodlands guard, but the Vandy dance team would have a rough time picking up the Woodland's guard performance. That's pretty much the best two bands at their particular craft so it may well not be the same between Vandy and Vista for example. One interesting note, my daughter regularly interacts with the Vandy dance team members and they always want to play with her weapons and have stated that they would like the opportunity to use weapons. Again, not trying to knock anyone or their performance. I literally turned to my wife and the Vandy parents next to us after the Woodlands was announced and told them Vandy was going to win with a record new high score. They are amazing and deserved their win.

I would love that! I posted on another thread, but it always seems like the shows I find the most fun/entertaining get punished by the judges. Think ROUS (Rodents of unusual Size) from last year and CTJ from this year. Both are super fun and obvious audience favorites that the judges didn't seem to think were as good as some of the less university style shows.

I agree, it's not my favorite. If the world was run by me we'd have a requirement for two types of equipment used by guard/dance team or whatever you want to call it, but luckily for us all I'm not in charge of the world! Nothing against Vandy, they were amazing last night and I loved their show. They deserved their 97.60. I think my favorite was Reagan, they have a good mix of talented dance team and a strong guard that uses flags, rifles, sabers, etc.

UIL 6A 2023 State Finals

I don't know if you're still looking, but the band's official YouTube channel has the run posted. https://www.youtube.com/@VistaRidgeBandVideo -
Is UIL and BoA scoring that different that Reagan will be able to move that far? My wife and I were at finals last night and were both dumbfounded that Reagan was 7th. Both of us felt that there was no way there were six shows better than them. It might have been the high that I was on after seeing our show, but I personally loved Reagan's show and thought it was the best all around. Even being a total homer I was ok with Reagan being first and Vista being second It's crazy, just as soon as I start thinking I have this thing figured out they remind me I know nothing.

I've noticed there are some bands that tend to peak early. I'm not sure if that's because they stop adding elements or have a simpler performance so it's easier to master or something all together different. I can only speak about our band, but I know the directors are constantly adding elements and tweaking things to get more points. I can't tell you how many times I've mentioned to my daughter that I hadn't ever seen this or that in past performances to have her tell me that it was the first time it had been added in.
