  1. Super happy with our performance this Saturday. Especially after all the hours us Band Dads and Moms spent on those props. Shout out to all the old Band Dads and Moms like me! Thank you everyone for such kind commends regarding our program here at Cy-Fair. I can't reveal too much but we have big things coming up that we have yet to reveal! Our Band Directors shared with us some of the Final Tapes and we had 2 judges cry during finals. The kids are so excited that we are fully into marching Band. Here are my predictions for this upcoming show, super sad that Tomball Memorial isn't showing up because I knew from the beginning that they were going to be extremely competitive and a dark horse for the Houston Area. As far as Bridgeland, my son is really good friends with their trumpet section and a few of the boys were over my house the other night and showed me their most recent run at their post game a few nights ago.. I don't want to talk ill about any programs, especially considering the fact that we have a friendly rivalry with them.. but they are in really rough shape. It sounds like they just learned their Ballad which was confirmed by some of their members. Something I was not expecting as Bridgeland usually comes out really strong this time of year. They also told me that the members haven't been treated the best and that their rehearsals have been filled with Directors screaming at them nonstop. I truly hope that they find some mid season mojo as I respect their program and want them to do well at Grand Nats as they represent our district. More importantly, I hope the kids have a good time in the process. This is something I am very thankful with our Directors about as they bring really positive emotions of the kids regardless of the results. Hearing those boys talk about their experience at my house was very disheartening but I'm sure it will get better throughout time. I'm saying all this to defend my predictions below regarding Bridgeland. One last note - was anyone else shocked that Jordan didn't make finals at BOA North Houston? I got to watch them during Prelims and was thoroughly impressed. 1. Reagan 2. Cy-Fair 3. Pearland 4. CTJ 5. Foster 6. Bridgeland 7. Clear Brook 8. Friendswood 9. Dawson 10. Klein Oak 11. Dickinson 12. Seven Lakes Best of luck to everyone there! You will see me pushing a prop. :)
  2. I love the Woodlands Show. It's one of my favorites at the moment! A bit biased since I'm from New Orleans. My son's senior year at CyFair is going great. The kids are loving it and are having a blast. I personally think it's better than last year. Haven't seen Bridgeland. Very interested to see if they have the same UIL based show/formula or if they are pushing a more unique design this year. My son has a video of Cy-Woods and Jordan HS. Huge improvements for both of those programs! Looking to be an exciting year.
  3. Just saw a video from Bridgeland's preview show from their community performance. GOOD LORD THAT PERCUSSION SECTION!! 😱😱😱 A little biased towards the home team since it's my son's senior year, but I'll think they will be a close second to us. The winds seem a little stronger than last year but I've always said that Bridgeland's strength is in their Guard and Percussion. The music seems a lot more challenging. Will be interesting to see what's being rewarded when it's contest season. Looking forward to seeing them at the first BOA competition is Conroe. Also.. watch our for Tomball Memorial this year. I know things I shouldn't but I would say that their hornline is the strongest in our area this year. Probably right under the Woodlands. Excited to see what everyone thinks of our show this year. It's our favorite one yet and will definitely be memorable for all!
  4. Yes.. Bridgelands music's package is ROUGH. Not sure what's going on over there. Maybe a band director change or staff change...? We'll see if they can clean that for finals. I think Pearland will do well. Saw a video of them from last week and they've really starting to turn it up! My prediction are Reagan, TWHS, Pearland, then CTJ. I have Bridgeland bottom half unfortunately due to their performance quality. Thinking CyFair HS top half..? Curious to some how some of those bands from BOA Austin will do at this show.
  5. My son and his friends went to watch the Bridgeland Vs Tompkins game and showed me a video. Biggest Takeaway: 1) Percussion and Colorguard.. WOW. WOW. WOW. Outstanding. Like, rivals some of the best in the activity. 2) Show seems to be awesome! Ballad is a little underwhelming but let's see what they do with it. 3) Besides some major intonation and tuning issues, wind section seems fine. Still needs a lot of work in this area but hopefully they can continue improve and fix. If the they can work on the musical side of things and balance their key moments, this group will pop out for sure. In the CyFair/Katy area - really liking Cypress Woods, Cy-Fair HS, Bridgeland, Seven Lakes, and Tomball Memorial! Very excited to see how things shake out in a month. Some great teaching going on!
  6. One thing that really will help Bridgeland is their Percussion section. They were ranked 14th in their Subcaption at UIL 6A State last year and their Indoor Percussion program went OFF this year even winning a WGI Regional. Definitely one of the stronger sections of their program. I think if Bridgeland utilizes their Percussion and Guard programs to their max potential, it would make them stand out. So excited though - so many good bands in this Area!
