6, Area G is a big one for 5As

I’ve heard Roma and Pioneer have been GRINDING the past couple weeks. Both programs have some really high goals for the year and have been tweaking and adding hoping to squeeze everything out of their shows to give themselves the chance to spend the extra night in SA. Some compelling storylines: Can a surging Pioneer catch the Roma giant? I agree with the four way race to round out the podium! Definitely a tight one! Will JL, Pace or WE stamp their first ticket to the Dome? Looking forward to seeing some amazing shows Saturday!

I think we are in a transition point currently with the newer judging system happening at the Area level that’s been utilized at State Marching Contest the past few years. The five judge system at Area I feel is a little tough currently. Judges are being asked to keep track of the different captions throughout each show, so the demand is really high for them. At state with the seven judge system allows for each person to solely focus on their specific caption. I think this final was a great one from years prior and definitely showcased the bar being raised for the 6As in our area. Iron sharpens iron so I foresee this trend continuing for them. Doing a deep dive into the numbers does raise eyebrows but definitely does not take away the great quality of product by the schools. At the end of the day the activity is subjective but I think Area G is moving that needle in the right direction. 👍🏼

Music scores were strong, unfortunately visual score kept them out from what I heard

There’s some really solid programs making a very viable go at it this year, let’s hope everyone has their best performances to date and the kids enjoy every minute of it!

Who has the best GE show? JBA Who has the hardest show? JBA Who has the best music selections? This one is a tough one because I personally feel it comes down more to the arrangements of the pieces more than the actual selections themselves. Which band plays the best? I think the fact that there’s only 15 make the numbers more manageable. Plus, due to program history judges will be more on the side of the “better” groups having more of that expectation before they start Vs a group that traditionally hasn’t been a contender. Doesn’t mean a black horse can’t come in and slug it out. Surprises are also a great thing for judges

Something to also consider is area is still the 5 judge panel. 3 music and 2 visual. State is where it goes to the 7.

1 per every 5, 15 attending so 3 advance. Unless someone announced they aren’t going so drop down to 14?
