  1. The contest is smaller this year because several bands that used it as a warmup for Area are not participating this year.
  2. With Pearland practically guaranteed one of the state slots, that leaves the rest of the bands in Area E battling it out like the Hunger Games for the remaining four slots. A sad fact is that some excellent shows will be left at home after November 2 due to the quota. May the odds be ever in your favor!
  3. My finals ranking at this point: Pearland Dawson Dickinson SF Austin Clear Brook Foster Fulshear Clear Lake PaM Clements Clear Falls Shadow Creek ——————- The biggest unknowns to me are what Foster and Fulshear will bring to the table on Nov 2. My rankings are a combination of past performances and the history of certain bands hitting their peak just in time for Area/State. Dawson and Brook historically start out slower, but get hot when it matters.
  4. They’ve taken down the detailed results that had the scores. My guess is that they will be posted again after finals.
  5. Bridgeland is also reasonably within reach of North Shore or College Park. They all looked and sounded good.
  6. In the 3A category, Clear Brook had an 82.5. The fourth through six place spots are tight!
  7. I missed Lumberton because I was on prop duty.
  8. Clear Brook had a clean run of their entire show in prelims. This was also their first performance with full props.
  9. Brazoswood looked good last night. They have a complete show and they still have time to clean it and make improvements.
  10. Region 17 just wrapped up the regional marching competition with all 6A schools qualifying for the Area E marching competition. Good luck to all bands, moving forward!
  11. I agree with your picks, but the 2-3 and 4-6 spots could be swapped. A lot of similar talent, but it largely is going to depend on who’s having a good day.
  12. Best of skills to all bands going to the Regional Contest! May the odds be ever in your favor!
  13. Clear Brook will be launching their comeback tour.
  14. Clear Brook was hurt by not having a complete show ready to perform this week. It will be interesting to see what evolves between now and UIL Area marching contest.
  15. It’s echoey, which may be why so many bands pushed to move the Area E contest to Alvin ISD’s stadium. There’s less parking in Alvin, but field acoustics are better. Foster’s preliminary performance looked very good! I hope it’s a late night for y’all!
  16. Why are so many people ranking Dickinson so low? Based on prior seasons, I would expect them to rank slightly ahead of Clear Brook. I’m also curious to see if last week was an anomaly for Dawson. Again, they typically score much higher.
  17. After seeing Foster pull from 11 to 7 place in Shenandoah, and Fulshear missing finals by just a hair in a strong competitive field, I predict that both schools will definitely make a strong statement in UIL Area E. Here’s to all eligible bands scoring ones at their Regional competitions, because we’re going to want all six possible slots to the SMBC.
  18. Pearland, Dickinson, CTJ, and Cy Fair will also be in the mix. This is going to be an exciting competition.
  19. A better comparison might be Despicable Me 2, but without Disney copyright infringements. arison
  20. “The Thing” is something being created by the mad scientists at “Brook Labs”, but we have yet to know if it’s good or evil. Given that this is a rated G program, it can’t be too bad? …or can it? You will see some props this week, but their full kinetic power might not be unleashed until later performances. The largest prop is also still under construction. It will be fun to compare the early season performances next weekend to what bands are performing in November.
  21. Clear Brook’s presentation of “ The Thing” is sure to be entertaining at BOA Shenandoah next weekend.
  22. It will be interesting to see how they fit the busses and trucks for thirty 6A bands simultaneously in the Freedom Field parking lot. While the stadium is rated for nearly 300 more spectators than Challenger, the parking lot appears to be a little smaller.
  23. Clear Brook will be unveiling the rest of their floor props in the coming weeks.
  24. I don’t think Freedom Field has a big enough parking lot to host the UIL 6A Area E marching contest. That being said, it would be a nice change for the CCISD band parents. They could actually watch the AREA competition instead of needing to volunteer for parking lot duty, etc.
