Van Alstyne placed 9th there. Does anyone have a video of them or have seen their show? They placed right under Mineola which always puts on a good show, but I'm curious how big the scoring difference was between them and Van Alstyne. Are they a dark horse that is rivaling the likes of Celina and Sulphur Springs this year??? Or was it just the contest and they made it to finals because there weren't a lot of large bands there??? -

One month until Area prediction: 1. Celina HS Band - "???" 2. North Lamar HS Band - "???" 3. Sulphur Springs HS Band - "Neon Lights" 4. Farmersville HS Band - "Aurora" 5. Canton HS Band - "American Vistas" 6. Pine Tree HS Band - "Triathlon No Limits" 7. Sunnyvale HS Band - "???" 8. Paris HS Band - "Paris" 9. Lumberton HS Band - "Viva la Carmen" 10. Community HS Band - "???" Celina is able to stand out among bigger bands. I think little discussion needs to be done about them. North Lamar is pretty polished right now and if they keep this pace they will definitely be at least top three. Sulphur Springs is also pretty polished with good marching and solos. I feel they just need a little more oomph in their show and then they could probably get second place. Farmersville is pretty good from what I hear, but I haven't seen their show. I think they could end up anywhere around the 7th-3rd range at the end of the day. Canton is also good this year. A definite improvement from last years show. From what I've seen there's just no sparkle in their show that would place them higher on this list. Polished all around, but need to make an impact. Pine Tree is doing well, but you can see that their a little rough around the edges right now. Not a bad show but still need to put the work in to reap the reward. Sunnyvale has improved their marching a lot which was holding them back in previous years. Their show also tells a good story like last year. I think they could squeak by into finals if they continue polishing. Paris has a lot of potential but I'm just not seeing it right now. I do believe they could get 7th or 6th, but right now it just doesn't seem like that's the case. Lumberton has improved since the beginning of the season and are continuing to do so. They have a good size but unless they utilize it throughout their entire show then I think they're going to end up around 9th. Haven't seen a whole lot of Community this year, but based on last year I think they should end up around this spot. They could easily be interchanged with Bridge City. Overall, all these bands are amazing this year and I cant wait to see how competitive they all are in a month. I'm expecting great things from every band in this Area!! -

UIL 4A Area C 2024

Celina is going to win. Anything against that is a moot point. I would definitely say North Lamar and Sulphur Springs deserve to be up here. Both are great bands and right now are pretty much neck and neck with each other. The order of them might change but they will definitely end up in the 2nd and 3rd slots. Lumberton is your average 4A band. They have the size going for them and can play pretty good impacts, but that matters little in the end if everything else doesn't lock in place. In their Area Finals performance from last year their marching was mediocre at best and there were multiple times they tore from each other. The data also backs this up. Lumberton has not beaten Paris in finals in both 2021 and 2023. All things considered, Paris is probably the third best band in the old Area C, but even at Royse City Marching Classic last year (which took place a week before Area) they were beaten by Farmersville and Sunnyvale. By default both Farmersville and Sunnyvale should place higher than Lumberton, joining Paris in that category. From the videos I've seen of Lumberton, they look about the same as last year and based on all the data from previous years, I believe the most they could do is barely scrape into the top 8. Not dissing on them, but Lumberton's placement up here is completely unjustified at least for right now. I could eat my own words, but best of luck to everyone at Lumberton! I hope they have a great season! Pine Tree is also a pretty good band. Right now they aren't that special, but based on previous years they should clean up and probably will end up going to state; they just might not be near the very top of the list. Unfortunately, Canton has fallen off in the past couple of years. They always keep their show pretty close to their chest so its hard to saw how they'll end up doing. Currently, I would say they do end up around 6th place and still go to State. Paris and Farmersville are both great bands and are pretty neck and neck. After the dust settles, Farmersville will probably end up beating Paris but not by that much. This Area is extremely competitive this year and with the sheer amount of good bands, its likely that one of these great programs doesn't even end up going to state. It would definitely be a shame but that's the unfortunate reality that the redistricting made happen this year. -

Here is what I think is likely to happen for top 10 (bolded is state qualifiers): 1. Celina 2. Sulphur Springs 3. North Lamar 4. Canton 5. Pine Tree 6. Farmersville 7. Sunnyvale 8. Paris 9. Lumberton 10. Bridge City Celina is obviously the best band here with only the knowledge of some of these bands shows this next year and how things went in the past. I'd say Sulphur Springs and North Lamar are both stellar in their own right and are honestly tied when it comes down to it. Canton is falling off a little so I am a little hesitant about them but they always put on a good show so here's hoping. Pine Tree and Farmersville are also good bands but instead of an amazing band like Paris making the top 7, I think it'll be Sunnyvale. They came out of nowhere at area last year and I like their show themes. I think they will be the upset this year and knock down some of the Area C powerhouses like Paris and Lumberton. Overall this is going to be a crazy season and we are all in for some amazing shows no matter what happens. -

I heard they only did well because they had an extremely good run. If they dont get another one of those I think it would be safe to assume they will not go go state -

That's really interesting. It seems like Canton, Celina, Panther Creek, and Anna are all neck and neck. It could be anyone's game. Kaufman has a good show this year, but I think they are just below the top schools right now. Farmersville and Community are about neck and neck this year. They both sound about the same and march as well as each other. I've seen Sunnyvale's show this year too and I think it's really neat and that they have the potential to do really well, but right now are about the same as Community and Farmersville. Van Alstyne is actually doing quite good this year, and I have yet to see Wills Point, but based on what I've heard, they should in finals but not at the top. -
Date of Contest: 10/21/2023 Location: C.H. Collins Stadium in Denton, TX Draw Order: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11UWNj06Y1kudekjrZA1jNh8QdGdhtlid/edit#gid=1020313781 As of 10/7/2023, it is not clear which bands will be making it to area, but based on past years it should be around 23-27 bands attending, meaning 10 finalists and 4 to 5 state qualifiers. My current finals prediction: 1. Anna 2. Celina 3. Kaufman 4. Canton 5. Panther Creek 6. Farmersville 7. Sunnyvale 8. Community 9. Wills Point 10. Van Alstyne
