  1. I LOVE seeing bands make it to State for the first time!!! How incredibly exciting for those students, directors, and communities!!!!!
  2. Huge congratulations to Kempner and Angleton on their first trips to State in their respective school histories!! Incredibly awesome!!
  3. Definitely agree! I don't think anyone is touching Friendswood or Barbers Hill. Both CStat schools were at State last year, so they'd be hard to argue against. Porter is not far removed from their last State trip, so I expect them to be back in that hunt. That leaves schools such as Kempner, LaPorte, maybe Angleton, etc perhaps battling it out for a 6th spot. Who else is looking good?
  4. I've heard that also, but is there a definite source? Online rulebook or anything?
  5. The number of bands advancing to State in this Area is heavily dependent on whether the three military bands who made a 1 but are not going to Area DO for sure count in the Area numbers. Right now it's looking like 27 bands to Area (so 5 to State) BUT in counting those three military bands (Crosby, Huntsville, and Nederland) it would reach that next threshold hold of 30, this sending 6 bands to State. Can anyone definitely confirm and point to that rule somewhere?
  6. I don't think I've seen anything yet on this new Area with MANY regions, lol. It's looking like there might be 30 bands at the Area contest on Saturday. Who are you thinking could be the 6 bands to State, if so? My initial guesses would be: - Friendswood (duh) - College Station (State last year in the old Area) - A&M Consolidated (also State last year in the old Area) - Barber's Hill (they seem to really be killing it this year) - Porter (State not that long ago) Others?? Kempner, LaPorte, Brenham, Angleton? Who have you seen that looks like contenders?
  7. I believe it was part of the spreadsheet error where Galena Park was mistakenly "not" announced as a finalist and Summer Creek was. I think.
  8. I'm unclear on the benefits here of using raw scores (1000 pts) instead of ordinals/ranks. And the equal or almost equal raw point values of percussion and guard with music and visual. Thoughts?
  9. What kind of error was made regarding Galena Park?
  10. Finalists are: (in random, not performance order) Kempner Fulshear Brenham La Porte Friendswood Barbers Hill Foster - Angleton was 8th - Manvel was 9th
  11. My predictions are the same, although I think Brenham and Manvel could potentially be in that mix, as well.
  12. After a great weekend of 6A bands from Area E, there is a small but good lineup of 5A bands scheduled for this Saturday! Discuss thoughts on Finals advancement, state advancement, etc!!
  13. Kempner has really been killing it, I would love to see that! Battle between them and Fulshear I would think for that 3rd spot. Next tier after those 4 would probably be Barbers Hill, LaPorte, and probably Angleton. Maybe Brenham or Manvel?
  14. Not a huge contest, but 3 still going to State, so that's good. 7 to Finals, who are we expecting to see?
  15. Finals results: 1) Angleton 2) Needville 3) Ganado Very enjoyable day of marching bands!
