  1. 100%!! I heard their new band director speaking to the band after the results, it sounded like he’s already hungry for that spot next year!! He really knows his stuff.
  2. I personally think the 2 best bands got the deserved spots!! They were ranked 1st and 2nd both prelims and finals!! Alexander getting 1st place from ALL music judges in prelims! Hanna left a gap between them and United at prelims. Congrats to all bands! That being said, some final thoughts. I heard United’s improvement prior to area never knew the improvement was that great!! They went from possibly not being a finals contender to 3rd place at prelims! I think United definitely had the most difficult show on the field, it made it hard to achieve! They still have the trend of going down at finals, once they fix that they’ll be up there again. Good for them!! Seeing LF at state would’ve been great, I wish Area G had lots of 6a bands again:( Let’s please try not to be negative to any bands from the competition! Every year the judging is close, every band wanted one of those spots for state!
  3. My predictions 1. Alexander 2. Edinburg North (or 3rd) 3. Edinburg (or 2nd) 4. Weslaco (or 5th) 5. Hanna (or 4th) 6. United 7. Harlingen 8. Psja/ Los Fresnos Literally all of these could be completely wrong! Area G is always close in judging, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see an upset.
  4. Very exciting! Can’t wait! A lot of the top bands are in the first block before the break!! I think that’ll make the judging more accurate 🙏I recently got to hear United.. They have definitely improved a lot wow. We’ll see if it’s enough for finals or state!
  5. Love the enthusiasm you have for Area G, it’s obvious you’re a Harlingen fan. Let’s try not to be disrespectful towards other bands! Not sure if you were trying to come off that way, but that’s how it feels for me. Just be careful! If Area G has showed us anything , it’s that these results are very unpredictable! Literally anything could happen!
  6. Thank you for the updates! I’ve heard rumors that United wasn’t that far off from Alexander in terms of scoring.. I wonder if we’ll see some movement soon… Edinburg North is having an amazing season! I’m glad to see they’re back at the top. City of Palms is this weekend.. Let’s see some predictions! Anyone got a full schedule?
  7. Couple of competitions have happened! Any thoughts so far? I've been trying to find the results for the San Benito Marching Festival, but I can't find anything!
  8. Uil state prelims: United - 35th Psja - 39th Alexander- 41
  9. My finalists prediction United Alexander Hanna Edinburg San Benito Psja Los Fresnos
  10. I think the hardest show is most likely Alexander if I have to be honest. In fact, I think the main reason they aren’t dominating as much is because their show is a lot harder which is resulting in it to be dirtier. In particular, their woodwind runs/features just aren’t as clean, but they are a lot more difficult. The best music selections in my opinion has to go to United. They are playing Rite of Spring, Red Caped Tango(underrated piece imo) and Lacrimosa. In my opinion Lacrimosa is one of the best pieces to play in marching band and they play it so well. They really match the style of the pieces very well and that woodwind run at the end is killer! I’ve never been a fan of having pop songs or modern songs in marching band, so i’ve always been a fan of pieces like those.
  11. I just wanna appreciate how small United is while still playing at a high level. I believe this is the smallest United’s band has ever been since the 2000’s (with only 90 ww’s and brass). It’s also very surprising considering the fact that United is one of the biggest high schools in Texas. I’m sure there’s bands that are smaller from 6a area g, but I’ve always known United for being big, and the fact that they were able to adapt so well from this drop in students is impressive!
  12. Hot Take: I believe San Benito can make state if they improve their visual content. Their music was really good and very balanced at the festival (you can even see one music judge give them 2nd). Not perfect but really good. Their visuals weren't super clean or super dirty but I think its missing more demand of the choreography. If they're able to get cleaned up a bit more, I believe they can give Hanna a run for their money.
  13. Someone posted United's run through at the festival: Can't wait to hear the improvement at area.
  14. I found this after a while of searching online. Alexander's and United's dominance really shows.
  15. I wish there was a video of UHS and JBA from the Marching Festival.
  16. Wow! United hasn't won the Uisd Festival since 2016. A historic year for them so far!
  17. Hanna at UISD Festival: Psja at UISD Festival:
  18. Yeah this was the most exciting UISD Marching Festival I have ever seen (IMO). United did amazing and it was a big improvement from Boa Mcallen, especially with their balance in the music. JBA did amazing as well, but I believe their show is still missing a movement. That last movement to their show could determine everything. I was very surprised by San Benito! San Benito's music was incredible. All they're missing is that visual content. Sadly I wasn't able to watch Hanna or PSJA, but I saw a video of Hanna's show at the festival and they're pretty clean. I am very excited to see United coming back after their slight downfall due to the covid quarantine.
