  1. I can't think of a better quote for Area I, specifically Cinco....so much irony this year. "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." - Elbert Hubbard
  2. I will go on record to say what happened to Spring HS with the Area and UIL weather decisions is embarrassing and frankly disgusting. Long story short, after the first 30 minute delay. Spring HS was lined up 20-30 minutes at the band entry point in the torrential rain. They then proceeded to enter the field for competition utilizing their opening 5 minutes. Rain still pouring down on them—before finally announcing that Finals would be cancelled. Decision makers here should be absolutely ashamed.
  3. Unless somehow the 11th place band gets a pair of 3's from the music judges and a 3 from the marching judge...that would be interesting and fun, lol...the Area is very deep but I'm not sure it's THAT deep. "In addition, any band below tenth place that receives a ranking of three or higher from at least two of the music judges and one of the marching judges will also advance to the final round."
  4. Seems implemented, but I only say that because their next meeting isn’t until December. And they say implementing in Fall. Shrug. Guess people will find out either way!
  5. Here we go....cool. UIL_MB_RAC_Spring_2024_Agenda_and_Minutes.pdf 1. Proposal to hold top half/bottom half pre-draw for area finals. Recommendation: Implementation in Fall 2024
  6. I could be wrong, but I think that stopped after 2022 for Area F. Otherwise why would they have a separate draw for Finals.
  7. I think there are 10 bands but either way the news is the same. We had 12/15 bands advance out of Region 33 last year, this year only 10/15 and the highest we can get to is 27 bands heading to Area. 😢
  8. Poor Collins, Magnolia West and yikes Cain? Where is Cain?!
  9. Correct. If 30 bands qualify for area, then the top 12 bands from prelims would advance to finals--and the top 6 bands from area finals would advance to state. If only 29 bands qualify for area, then the top 10 bands from prelims would advance to finals--and the top 5 bands from area finals would advance to state.
  10. Region 9 Marching Contest Next Tuesday 2024 REGION 9 UIL MARCHING SCHEDULE 9-13-24.pdf
  11. Very possible. But Grand Oaks also performs as the first band and that's a tough draw. Cy Ranch was one of the earliest bands at Webster and also had electronics issues. Coin flip.
  12. Let's give it a whirl....only 10 bands final. 1. Bridgeland 2. College Park 3. Klein Oak 4. Clear Brook 5. Tomball Memorial 6. Klein Cain 7. North Shore 8. Cy Ranch 9. Oak Ridge 10. Caney Creek, Lumberton, or Grand Oaks (last one in pick 'em)
  13. Ack! Angleton....I meant Angleton, but they are closer. Still early!
  14. Would be kind of nice if there were 30 qualifying bands. I'd say odds are a little better this year, we really need just one of Humble, Eisenhower, or MacArthur to do it.
  15. Lumberton, what's their call time going to be. Yuck.
  16. It's all subjective. From the judges...to the parents, to the kids, to these boards. If someone struggles with constructive criticism (that's really meant to make them better) then maybe this isn't the activity for them. Now that said, it can be done tactfully but tone is easily lost on a keyboard so, hang in there kiddos. It all sounds great and its just the beginning of the season too. Keep working and don't let anything get you down!
  17. This really saddens me…I feel like this feeder program has the potential to some great things both now and going forward.
  18. The battle is going to be in the bottom 6-7. There is a lot of depth there (in alphabetic order) with Brazoswood, Clear Brook, Dawson, Dickinson, Foster, Friendswood, Fulshear, Klein Cain, Klein Oak, Seven Lakes...among some others. Three or more of these bands may potentially not final.
  19. Plenty of top 8-10 predictions.... does anyone want to take a crack at the bubble bands?
