I’m not sure if it was just my view, but I’ve been watching Coppell’s band show all season and I personally don’t think it was their best run. Was there a timing issue between the front ensemble and the band itself? Seemed like the band was trying to catchup from the start and through entire show. Hope the best for them though.

I’m not too well-versed on USBands. From what I’ve heard and seen, UIL and BOA are typically neck and neck in showing close proximity scores. USBands is another beast, but since this is a World Class division, I believe it’s suppose to be comparable to State Level contests. I think the focus with USBands is technique and foundational marching. I believe @Dallas Hobbs or @CosmicLimbo will have a better explanation lol.

I saw the bands from beginning to end, and I will say that this was a great group to have the first ever world class event in DFW. In my opinion, AT&T has better acoustics for marching bands than the Alamodome. I think the Alamodome has much more reverb. Quick Note! Jeff Harper was one of the judges here tonight and (correct me if I’m wrong) will also be a music judge at the 6A State Marching Contest. This could be a different Jeff Harper, but how exciting he will see these bands AGAIN during their prelims performance. I think it could give them a slight edge in the prelims contest!

At least I got one correct theory in Rockwall placing just below advancing to state lol. I couldn’t be more wrong in my other predictions! So sad Duncanville couldn’t pull off 2nd or 3rd. -

As with all UIL contests, I don’t expect much to change within the Top 4. So here are my final predictions for finals. 1. Waxahachie (without a doubt taking #1) 2. Duncanville (a bit cleaner marching wise than Sachse/music was improved compared to prelims) 3. Sachse (I think the band was hyped on excitement which might have effected the performance particularly the marching compared to prelims/music was solid) 4. Rockwall (The band overall is good. The content and design seemed to be pushing against the band) Great performances from all bands. However, I do think the prelims Top 4 will remain the same with changes between 2 & 3. I could be be wrong lol. I’m open to being wrong. Just my opinion. -

Overall, I think (in no particular order) Duncanville, Lake Highlands and Rockwall will be in finals (from this block). Duncanville definitely has the right recipe for success in this competition. Even as far as pulling off 1st place. Rockwall can be a high contender for advancing to state. Although, I believe they’ll place just below advancing to state. -

Rockwall is definitely a finals contender. My only worry with Rockwall is giving the judges too much to judge (iykyk) which could place them right outside of the Top 4. Overall, loved the show. -

I have only seen this block so far, but so far from this block, I think Lake Highlands has a chance of securing a Finals Spot compared to Tyler Legacy and Irving. No disrespect to the bands as everyone is proud of their performances and so are the parents, but I don’t think Tyler Legacy and Irving will be making finals. -

Goodluck to all the bands today! These are my final predictions: 1-2. Waxahachie/Duncanville - These could go either way imo. Waxahachie is still a really great competitor, but after seeing Duncanville’s show they really incorporate a lot of UIL strategies. 3. Berkner 4. Sachse -

The Duncanville Marching Invitational created a new judging system in ‘94 (which the UIL Area and State competition adopted in ‘98 until 2020. It is controversial, but also surprises me how Duncanville couldn’t snag championships considering they created the rubric for the state marching competition. It has changed since then and the state and area contests I believe have changed as well. Unless, area is still the same. They did win their last championship in 2002 and placed very high every state year until 2012 (making their last finals performance in 2014). I think it’s funny how it’s controversial back then and even now. Even though they are not up to par with the current bands dominating the industry. They use to be the blueprint before any bands really made a name for themselves. Dr. Tom Shine had a grip on the competitions. -
2023 BOA Prosper (Oct. 14)

Being a fan of Duncanville and watching many of Duncanville’s shows throughout the years, I think their show was very fun, entertaining, and a very nice sight to see, but I think individual marching and marching as a whole needs a bit more work to compete with some of the top bands. I could see how music choices and the simplicity of the music compared to the top bands maybe could have brought them down. -
