  1. Lake Belton showing you don't need a truckload of props to have a great show.
  2. I loved their show at Area. (I didn't see State, so I'm just looking at numbers.) There was a big gap between the scores of Roma and Lake Belton, so it seems like the 'right' 12 bands advanced. They can be proud of having a wonderful year and a bright future.
  3. I loved the diversity in the advancing bands: Hendrickson: complex and emotive Pieper: lively and fun Lake Belton: beautiful show with zero props Hays: nice show with insane number of props
  4. Finals was lots of fun. Legacy Ranch and Freeman were first-year schools. Salado and Marble Falls made finals for the first time ever. Marble Falls and La Grange made state for the first time ever. The top six in prelims were the top six in finals, but not in the same order.
  5. I wouldn't use the word "lost" with any of these bands.
  6. While it's exhilarating to see these great shows, it's also sad to think there will be a heartbroken set of kids who don't medal. I hope they're able to look back and put it in perspective as one of a set of really great performances where there are no ties.
  7. I took the IH-35 comment to be a compliment. Perhaps SH-130 would have been a better analogy in that case.
  8. It's been that way in 6A and 5A for several years. They currently have two 6A schools (Vandy and Vista Ridge) and four 5A schools (Glenn is the other one). Glenn finished 4th at Area behind Liberty Hill and there were only three state slots.
  9. Pretty big gap in prelims between the top four most people were talking about and the rest of the field. Finals should be amazing!
  10. In addition to the two Leander 6A bands finishing 1st and 4th at San Antonio BOA, their three 5A bands that made state finished between 6th and 10th. Another 5A band, Wakeland, also made finals (13th). That seems like a darn good showing for 5A bands. Monday should be a fun competition for state prelims.
  11. I'm interested to see how Liberty Hill does and what people think. I don't know anything about them except that at Area they kept it from being a Leander ISD sweep by beating out Glenn for the 4th and final state slot.
  12. Thanks! I did okay considering half the time I don't remember why I walked into a room! 🙂
  13. Thanks for saying that. I saw LISD in earlier posts and was confused because I immediately thought Leander ISD since I live in central Texas.
  14. I recall Marcus around 2007 or so with the wild show with seahorses and whatever running all over the entire field. I loved it for entertainment value as a non-musician parent of a kid from another band.
  15. Some bands' numbers were all over the place (e.g. three judges would have had Burnet and Gatesville in finals), but only one judge ranked Canton better than 12th so their numbers were more consistent than many. It's not like one judge cost them a finals slot.
  16. What do people think of the seven judge system?
  17. Liberty Hill edged out Glenn to prevent a Leander ISD sweep. Best of luck to all of them.
  18. It was lots of fun to watch this contest. All the bands played great in finals. Hendrickson music is excellent. Lake Belton did everything well. Pieper visuals are striking and their flute soloist is amazing. Nice to see Pflugerville advance - it has been a while for them. Great job by everyone and best of luck at state!
  19. China Spring looked very good at Area. In prelims they got 5/1/2/2/3. Everyone else had at least one 9 or higher. In finals they got 1/1/1/5/1. They certainly deserved to win Area D.
  20. Kudos to all the bands in Pflugerville for making through a very long day (and night). It suddenly got VERY hot for ~90 minutes around noon, then cloud cover helped out the rest of the day. Some fun facts.... Longest day award goes to Boerne. Prelim time 10am. Finals time 9:30pm. (Finals results were announced around 12:30am.) China Spring, La Grange, and Kennedale were runners up, playing at 10:45/11:00/11:15am. China Spring and Kennedale played in finals at 11:30/11:45pm so CSHS performances were over 12 hours apart. Kennedale probably had the longest day when you add in the bus rides. Regions represented: 7. Regions to finals: 5. Regions to state: 3. Sample distances (there may be worse examples): Fredericksburg - Madisonville: 257 miles Benbrook - Royal 247 miles I believe Benbrook was furthest from the Pfield at 184 miles.
  21. weather.com says 93 (vs 94 yesterday). KXAN app says 95. All the TV channels say 95 for Austin, which should mean around 93 in Pflugerville. One nice thing for the prop people - usually it's very windy at the Pfield but it's supposed to be relatively calm tomorrow. We'll see....
  22. Judges, directors, pit crews, semi drivers, volunteers, etc. will also be fried. The high temp is supposed to be 94 by the way!!
  23. 32 bands in Area D means 8-1/2 hours for prelim performances - at least 9-1/2 hours when you add in breaks - then probably an hour break before finals. And Area E is even larger! There will be a lot of tired kids, directors, judges, and volunteers by the end of the day.
  24. That was exactly what I meant. My apologies if it was unclear. It's true in 5A perhaps even more than in 6A.
  25. Yes - that's where I had counted Boerne twice skimming through the list at https://www.texasmusicforms.com/marchrptuilpublic.asp
