  1. Thank you. I just wish the mics didn’t cut out during the ballad. Could not hear the soloists
  2. Ronald Reagan … wild. What a clean show this early in the season. I do note that a lot of bands are having difficulty staying together. Might be wind or echo
  3. Didn’t see ranch. Friends of mine said there was a problem with electronics in the morning and BOA had to bring in a generator. Langham was clean and sounded good. The show lacks energy, though. I’m hopeful they get to finals.
  4. George ranch. Never heard of em but they were clean and crisp, sounded great.
  5. I like the extra distance. I get a better view. And there’s no noticeable diminished volume. I can hear the woodwinds clearly and even the duts. Haven’t noticed any echo. It’s breezy though.
  6. I’m headed there in about an hour and can report back if someone else doesn’t beat me to it.
  7. My guess: 1. Klein Cain 2. Cy Park 3. Cy Ranch 4. Angleton
  8. As for me, I just haven't seen their show. I think they won the percussion caption at Lone Star last year, but could be mis-remembering. Looking forward to seeing their show tomorrow!
  9. Very exciting. The only one I haven't seen is 7L, so really curious to see what they've been up to. I loved their paper cranes show and thought it was underrated. I've heard that most of the big bands attending tomorrow will not have their complete shows on the field, so I'm taking it all with a grain of salt. I think the general aim is to have full shows on the field next week. I know Bridgeland will premiere the full show at Lone Star Preview next Saturday.
  10. Would be great for them to make a splash. If they do, folks will stop sleeping on them.
  11. Alright, it’s the eve of the contest, here we go: 1st. Bridgeland (bold, but I think the show is unmatched among all I’ve seen this year…will come down to execution) 2nd. Reagan (lot of respect, but the drill doesn’t seem particularly difficult. They sound amazing though. Let’s see) 3rd. Cy-Fair 4th. Pearland (I didn’t like the show compared to last year’s - but haven’t seen anything in the past week or two) 5th. Clear Brook 6th. Foster (really impressed with their show this year) 7th. CTJ (all great bands rise and fall, usually with arrival and departure of directors, unfortunately I think that’s what we’re seeing here) 8th . Seven Lakes (haven’t seen the show, purely based on rep) 9th . Dawson (probably underrated) 10th. Friendswood 11th. West Harrison 12th. Langham Creek (i attended LCHS back in their glory days, would love to see them return) / Dickinson
  12. The inclement weather policy seems to address ticket sales and not performance policy. BOA Webster looks like rain on Saturday. What does BOA typically do here?
  13. It was actually pretty good. Nothing too complex, but they performed it well - certainly a step up from last year.
  14. This seems more consistent with my experience. My daughter was telling me that the BHS directors and the band are "going soft" and that they need to be harder on the kids. LOL.
  15. I'm a Bridgeland parent, and yeah, we are in rough shape. The drill isn't bad, but the music needs a lot of work. I think a big part of the problem is that the show is so challenging. I don't think they ever march at less than 180 bpm. As a result they have a greater number of sets to learn, a lot of choreography. In fact, I don't think we're even going to have our whole show ready for Saturday's BOA @ Webster. I absolutely love the show and I think it stacks up very well against a lot of what I saw at BOA Shenandoah this past weekend. After seeing TWHS, CyFair (no offense intended, believe me), Dawson, TMHS, etc., I still like Bridgeland's the most in terms of complexity, visual, and the unusual music. But like I said at the start of the season, the show only matters if you can execute it. We need to work on the music. And yes, I think those trumpeters are correct, there are some morale issues among the students about various things, such as preferential treatment. I won't go into details out of respect for the directors, but it's an issue among a large segment of the members. I haven't heard anything about screaming at kids - that can be really subjective and I have a mentality that kids need to be able to deal with some adversity for the common good, but I understand not everyone agrees with me. Either way, Saturday will be a blast, and let the chips fall where they may.
  16. Yeah mixed feelings about it. You want to be positive for the kids reading the forum but at the same time, you’ve got to have a little freedom to express yourself.
  17. The Woodlands!!! Amazing musicality, great solos. The drill wasn't overly interesting but they marched it to perfection, moved as a single unit even with those two-tone pants that would highlight any screw ups. And this is in September. They'll be a monster in a few weeks.
  18. WOW Tomball Memorial!!! What a finale!! I love the controlled chaos!
  19. I didn't think Cinco Ranch was all that bad. The soloists were a bit off, such as the unfortunate trumpeter who shook his head at his own performance just as the camera panned over to him. I didn't really get the theme - lemon? I'm not sure what that is. But generally, they sounded good, much of the marching was crisp, and the salsa movement was fun and creative (not sure it was salsa, but that's what I choose to call it).
  20. that’s the way of the world these days. You play and I march, I play and you march, then we all park and bark.
  21. Absolutely AMAZING show. The musical talent, the dancing, the glass flipping, when they break out the trench coats...wow
