What's your favorite show?
zxrzxz replied to lizzard2027's topic in Everything Music: Marching, Concert, Auditions and more
Can’t rank these to be honest but these are some of my favorite High School Shows. These are just the all around great shows. Also disclaimer most of these are pretty recent. Obviously Hebron 21 is up there (Penstriped) Flomo 21 (The wonderful world of Dr. Seuss) I don’t hear this one get talked about enough. Everything form the design, choreography, and music is just so fun. There’s so much character and Flomo always nails their themes. Cesar Park 2022 (Mirror Mirror) From a design aspect, I’ve always liked this one. I was lucky enough to see it in person multiple times and particularly the opener and the ballad stick out. The mirror choreography is so satisfying visually. Hebron 2015 (360) Just amazing, no other comments Castle 2024 (Neo Noir) The music selection is great in itself. Love the outfits and everything. It wasn’t the best in cleanliness but wow did it pack a punch Here’s some specific moments from shows that I like Rouse 2023 Closer (Requiem) Hebron 2024 Ballad (Amorphous) Flower Mound 2019 2nd Movement (Vitrify) Vandegrift 2021 Ballad (Juliet Letters) Lonestar 2024 Opener (The Other Side) -
2025 Changes to UIL Marching Competition, and Proposals
zxrzxz replied to utee94's topic in UIL: Upcoming Contests
I really hope D #3 Passes, there’s so many competitive areas that cut out way too many good bands. Area B 5A could have had 5 bands with Lebanon Trail being added in, and it’s likely all 5 would have made finals. Obviously it won’t be the case this year because wakeland not medalling. -

So I know that TMEA Honor Band auditions are coming up this year for the odd conferences if i’m correct. Anyone have any predictions on who might win this year and be preforming in San Antonio in 2026? I know they don’t choose till like July, but I thought it could be a nice discussion while it’s not marching season. Please post any updates you can find here.

I feel like people definitely don’t give texas bands enough credit when stacked up against other bands outside of the state at grand nats. For one, non texas schools rehearse much more due to them not having a UIL 8 hour limit. And for indiana, and other midwest states, it costs much less for them to go to grand nats, than a texas school. So they pretty much go every year, meaning they’ve had so much experience in grand nats. But the fact texas schools are still able to rank as high as they do just makes it even more insane.

From what I heard, they are a magnet school for fine arts, so yeah a lot of their kids are in band and they also get insane funding. So not only do they have a large number enrolled in band despite being just a AA High school in boa, they also have better funding, and more talented students because they are a fine arts centered school. It’s a little unfair when other 2As compete against them because they have such a big advantage, no wonder they are nationally ranked

So I know a lot of people are expecting Cedar Park to be the winner again but I’m just wondering what are the chances we see Rouse finally pull out a win here? Personally I think they could do it. They’ve gotten closer and closer each year, and considering they tied last saturday, maybe this might be the year.

Yeah no i’m pretty sure I remember MN doing the same thing last year after argyle got announced 5th. It’s a little heartbreaking to hear they haven’t really made an effort to change in how they react to other bands not making state. I genuinely feel so bad for LT, considering they have made state these past few years and this year they didn’t. -

Out of the shows everyone has seen for this area, generally what has been your favorite in concept, content, design, and over all execution? Call it GE if we want -

UIL 5A Area B 2024

Yeah no this area is just ruthless, there’s so many good state contenders and for there only to be four spots is just tragic. With that being said though, I really think LT and Argyle will win out here for 3rd/4th just because of their history. Thats definitely a disadvantage for Walnuts Grove, they’ve only been here a year. With Reedy (this is very hypothetical as I haven’t seen them at all), I think it’s just a little unrealistic for them to beat out some of the top contenders like these after not even making finals last year. But maybe they’ve really kicked it up a notch I don’t know. But it’s not impossible, Argyle went from being 8th in prelims to being a solid contender for state in a year. -

Here’s my predictions for how I think this contest will play out. However with this area, anything can happen. 1. Wakeland - They have been one of the best competitors in 5A Alone, getting bronze at state last year, and barely behind marcus at prosper. Always clean, always shining musically. If they didn’t get first Id be shocked 2. Lonestar - They are undoubtedly having their best year yet and their show design this year is incredible. I love their props and their music selection. Their ballad is just beautiful and they do all of their drill and choreography at a very high level. They could definitely get top 5 at state. Only reason they are behind Wakeland is cause of past competitions, and generally Wakeland is unbeatable in cleanliness. But I would argue that their content is more demanding. 3. Lebanon Trail - Very interesting theme. Love all the choreography and effects throughout. The reason I place them here is they have a very strong history of cleaning exceptionally well before area, and because they made state finals last year. They are definitely interchangeable with the 4th spot though. 4. Argyle - This program has constantly been adapting better and better each year in 5A, with this definitely being the strongest show they have ever put out. They are able to compete well even for their small size, and have a great sound. But the reason I have them here is because they definitely are out for blood after falling out of 4th last year. Other than that, their show has a really cool theme, and they seem to have great content and design within their show. This again could potentially make a run for 3rd as well. 5. McKinney North - They execute what they have at a very high level. They sound amazing and always have entertaining shows. However I am going to jump on the band wagon that this year seems very repetitive of past years. And with so many bands having their best years yet, I think they will land here. 6. Reedy - I really do not have much to go off of here. They have proven to be a very good program so far however, and from results of past competitions this year, they could potentially be a dark horse. But I have yet to see a video and therefore this placement is a little iffy. 7. The Colony - This program is no exception to the success that LISD is associated with. Their show theme looks really cool! I’m iffy with this placement as well because they could probably get higher. But I think again this is where they will land up. 8. Walnut Grove - For only having their first year ever last year, they are doing really well. They could definitely become a force to be reckoned with in the coming years. 9. Emerson - Once again, another amazing frisco school. They are still pretty new to the scene and like WG, could become a powerhouse in this area. I think they really just need more time however. 10. Heritage - Again like reedy, this is based of what i’ve heard. They seem to be doing well this year in their competitions and are definitely working to become notable in this area. However I do think that there are several other schools that could take this spot. -

It is but also sometimes it’s hard to find some of these shows like reedy. I entered my prediction based of only what I heard because I haven’t been able to find a video of them -
