  1. I'm not a judge but liked Pearlands show better than Vandegrift, Vista Ridge or Hebron TBH
  2. I think Flower Mound is going to take gold if they execute tonight
  3. We have 4 more of the heavy hitters coming - this is a long way from over
  4. Definitely going to be a really exciting finals
  5. Does anyone know why Vandegrift was absent for the awards last night?
  6. I'm not even going to worry about prelim scores. If history is any guide, they mean less than you think. Every band will rehearse tomorrow morning, make adjustments, and try to show up and put on their best show. Tomorrow is a whole new ballgame with different judges. Good luck to all of these kids who worked so hard to get here. Root for your own band, cheer for them all, and appreciate the work they all did to get here and the amazing shows we're about to see tomorrow. It's really an amazing accomplishment just to make it to state. 260+ bands, 40 make state, 14 make finals. These last 14 are the best of the best, and may they all deliver THEIR personal best tomorrow.
  7. Yes, Lewisville ISD is having a great year, proud of these kids for certain. But just WOW - how entertaining the shows have been this year I know the judges are looking for different things than the audience. You can really enjoy a great show that maybe wasn't technically up to standard and the judges are way better at that than I am.
  8. I don't expect the Vandegrift directors and band to take Saturday's results and roll over - I'd rather win against someone at their best than by default. If Lewisville bands do indeed sweep UIL I want it to be with everyone giving their best performance. No one should be able to say " you won, but...". It's just not a good feeling knowing you only won because the other guys f'd up.
  9. Full props were first part of our show at the US Bands competition at AT&T Stadium last Wednesday. We reveal a little more of our full show at each successive contest which is kind of fun - it's like seeing a new show each time and gives us something new to show the audience.
  10. The Marcus parents construct the props - we don't buy them - all the labor is volunteers/parents. It's definitely a community effort
  11. I'm thinking Marcus was .2 behind Hebron at BOA and came from behind all season last year to take 2nd ahead of Hebron and FloMo. Flower Mound's show is really good this year, but Marcus is a small band that packs a serious punch. I'm seeing them placed at 5th, 6th in some predictions here and I think they have a great show this year that's well executed. Hebron is an incredible band with a ton of talent but I think our material is better this year and more dynamic - we'll see what happens! Either way it's going to be an exciting 2 days. Vandegrift was sloppy the other night and it cost them - not a huge fan of their material this year either, but another strong band and it's a new day. No matter how this all comes out it will be an exciting and entertaining two days!
  12. I'm just glad I don't have to judge these shows myself. Watching BOA finals was amazing. SOO much talent. I'm a Marcus dad so clearly rooting for them, but I think we have a great shot at 2nd here behind FloMo barring some disastrous error by them or us. I believe in the "any given Sunday" theory - if you're in the top 10, whoever delivers on contest day will take it, and there could be some real surprises. These kids at each of these bands will rise to meet the expectations set by the directors and creative people. The don't control the content, difficulty, or anything else, only how their individual performance contributes to the whole. And they WILL deliver to the best of their abilities. But I will also be rooting for every one of these kids in every band to give their BEST performance this week and I'm excited to see what they all deliver.
