  1. Completely agree with this. Could see them sweeping everything but music. They’ve been closing that gap between Hebron all season. With the run from last night they might’ve just done it.
  2. I believe the technical term for this is WabiSabi. It’s a Japanese term and refers to taking pleasure in impermanence and imperfection
  3. All these different sheets and rules and regulations make it the most confusing thing ever
  4. Exactly, content is worth 150 out of the possible 1000 points from each judge, therefore it is worth 15% while the rest of the captions (brass, ww, perc, ens) are worth the rest of the 85% combined.
  5. What they are saying is that in each individual caption, content is worth 50% and achievement is worth 50% at state. So let’s say within the brass category, half of it is based on what they are playing, the other half on how they are achieving it. At area, each music or visual judge is basing their raw score 85% on achievement and 15% on content. A little misunderstanding in the wording
  6. Hey SousaLord, i’m actually on a very similar path to the one that you are trying to pursue. For starters, keep participating in your orchestra as you’ll gain helpful experience and learn more about how to fit into an orchestra. As a sophomore, your main focus should be improving your fundamentals throughout the year. Long tones, technique, whatever just as long as you’re expanding your knowledge and skills. Something you’ll want to start thinking about is which music school/university you plan to attend to further your music education. As a junior, you’ll probably want to get in touch with the faculty at these schools and establish a basis for their perception of you. This relationship can set you apart from other applicants when you go through the audition process. Finally, don’t stress too much about it. You’re still young and it seems like you have a good future ahead of you. Learn to enjoy the clarinet and fall in love with it; don’t turn your life into “how much can i practice each day” as you will burnout and lose your passion. Good luck on all your future endeavors and I hope this helps!
  7. Sorry, just a little confused by this. What exactly does it mean the top 5 from each panel. Is it not just the 14 highest scores across all of prelims?
