  1. Very true. I've only had the opportunity to mingle with Reagan students twice, both times in 2002, the first being after UIL Area, when we found out we made it to State, and we were sitting right next to Reagan. Some complete stranger from Reagan congratulated me, and I congratulated him. The second time was after BOA SA 2002, and apparently our band directors had both reserved Sunset Station (across from the Alamodome), and the two bands got to mingle once again. Truly a great bunch of people! Congrats to Reagan again on 2nd place at BOA GN!
  2. lol...yeah. In fact, I think I commented on that on the topic "wooh its not band stuff," where we TRIED not to talk about band, but it ended up with a bunch of people just saying hi, cuz they couldn't think of anything else to say that wasn't band related. Quite hilarious. - mindfulmusician
  3. Actually, its funny that you bring this up, because I just started playing the game this past Thursday. However, I am still just a beginner, and you'd probably kill me very easily. Ah, the fun of being a beginner! - mindfulmusician
  4. I definitely agree...I think that if Grand Nats were moved around, we would be able to see great bands that might not have the money to travel to Indianapolis. Yay for good poor bands! - mindfulmusician
  5. Ok, I think I posted this on another post, but what's the whole animosity between Reagan and Westfield? They're both REALLY good bands, but it seems like there is a LOT of mudslinging going on between the two. I mean, perhaps I'm ignorant, but how did this start? Did Reagan beat Westfield at a comp that Westfield "should have" won? WHAT'S THE DEAL?! Anyway, I have just 4 words..."Alle menschen werden bruder." - mindfulmusician
  6. There's no shame in that, brother. - mindfulmusician
  7. Ok, I have another ignorant question to ask. The music in the end of Reagan's 2005 show, what piece of music is that from? I've heard it somewhere, but can't quite place my finger on it. Any help would be great. Thanks! - mindfulmusician
  8. Pardon my ignorance, but how many bands have done "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra?" I mean, I know Lassiter did it in 2003, and Reagan did some excerpts in "Synergy" last year, but who else has done it? - mindfulmusician
  9. No, I have noticed it as well, and it can make communication quite difficult at times. However, its kinda hard to organize. I mean, some people would like to talk about comps in Music, Marching and Auditions, and some talk about it in Upcoming and Past Comps. I think if you seriously want to cut down the over-excessive posting of topics, then you would have to set up some kind of guideline system which specifies where a topic should go. For example, you will find at least one topic on 4A State on BOTH Music, Marching and Auditions AND Upcoming and Past Competitions - the same goes for BOA SA; I believe this is because people are confused about where to post their topics. So, as I said, if people are willing to set up some kind of guideline system, then maybe we can straighten this thing out. Or, maybe not. I would suggest we do, to help eliminate confusion, but that's just my opinion. - mindfulmusician
  10. Man, looking at those scores, those have GOT to be UIL judges, or at least they're judging on the UIL system. Perhaps I am biased because my band got the short end of the UIL stick last year, but it seems like UIL's system is very dysfunctional...there's usually little to no consistency with the scores, and there are always those occasions where some judges think that a band is AWESOME, and some think they SUCKED. Sorry, but those are just my 2 cents.
  11. Props to you, man. .35!? That's gotta be rough...but, I can empathize - in 2003, Seguin had an AWESOME performance, but missed finals by .75 that year (mainly in GE). So, yeah, I know JUST how you feel. Also, were there any other bands that anyone thought SHOULD have made finals...like, Cedar Park for example. Was Spring there? Did anyone catch their show? - mindfulmusician
  12. Congrats to Seguin for winning Auxilary Caption, Best Color Guard, and tying with Westfield for Outstanding Visual!!!!!!! : - mindfulmusician
  13. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!! - mindfulmusician
  14. Hey, guys, There is a beautiful phrase that keeps running through my mind - it is the phrase that opens the Reagan 2004 show, "Synergy." It is also the line that opens the final movement in Lassiter's 2003 show. I'm assuming that since both shows had the elements of Britten's "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra", that it must be from this orchestral piece. However, I wanted to know if anyone knew the EXACT movement that this is from, and if possible, the spot when it is played (beginning of the mvt, middle, 2/3 through, end?). I'm sure that you marvelous Reagan people know EXACTLY where your show music comes from, and I look forward to hearing your responses (Actually, if you don't know, that's cool, but if you do know, rest assured that you will brighten the day of a college student VERY MUCH - yup, I LOVE music ). - mindfulmusician
  15. Here's a unique one... "C'mon, I could drive my truck through that hole..." - McKeithen, upon seeing bad spacing in a form. Of course, we also have the universal "one more run," "one more run then water," and every possible variation of the saying. - mindfulmusician
  16. Ah...the Lone Star Preview...that certainly brings back a lot of memories...one of the few comps that we went to all 4 of my HS years. I love the Conroe area...when you warm-up, and hear the sound resonating in the surrounding forest (or small wooded area, at least), it just feels so great; I'm going to miss that. Anyway, good luck to all the bands competing this weekend, and I wish y'all only the best. It looks to be a GREAT contest. - mindfulmusician
  17. That's weird, because today I woke up late and missed 2 classes! I'm SO GLAD we didn't go over new material today. Ah, the beauty of college! - mindfulmusician
  18. Heck Yeah! Those are definitely the best! - mindfulmusician
  19. Hilarious! Long live the band geeks! P.S. - Bariphonium (and everyone else who is going), good luck at BOA Arlington. - mindfulmusician
  20. Does anyone think that it's odd how this is the only section that is not related to band, and that we have nothing to say except, "Hi", or "What's up?" But then again, it is a band website, and we are band geeks...
  21. I once saw one DM salute that was pretty crazy - it looked like he was trying to do the robot by how jerky he was. In fact, it looked as if he was about to break dance...but it was pretty cool.
  22. - When you find great toe heighth to be VERY SEXY... (not that I'VE ever felt that way...lol) - mindfulmusician
  23. I have read that there are lots of compositions that people have written...are there any of these in the media section? If not, can you create a section strictly for fresh compositions? Just a suggestion... - mindfulmusician
  24. May I just say how envious I am of all of you guys that get to march at the new and improved Lone Star Preview...prelims AND finals...well, good luck to all of you competing!
